QVC HOST VISITS VANDERBILT’S KIDS While it is normally the teens in the Vanderbilt Y’s Leaders Club who are visited by guest speakers, it was our younger group of kids ages 5-12 that had the opportunity to meet Amy Oselkin, Clarks QVC On-Air Host and Product Presenter as part of their career unit. Amy’s presentation included viewings of her segments on QVC and a product demonstration of waterproof boots that gave the children a glimpse into her on camera work. The children were so enthused that one shouted, “Can I have your autograph” in the middle of the presentation, prompting the other children to join in on the request. Each child was given a copy of Amy’s biography and picture which they held on to throughout the presentation. Amy’s extensive background in broadcasting and media along with her passion for fashion has allowed her to blend her many talents into a career as a QVC host. While her young audience may not be old enough to purchase a pair of waterproof boots the next time Amy appears on QVC, they no doubt were inspired by her presentation and her message that following your dreams can lead to interesting and unexpected places. STRONG KIDS CAMPAIGN
Our Strong Kids Campaign enables us to provide scholarships that allow children, families and individuals to take part in the Vanderbilt YMCA’s membership and programs. As a non-profit, we rely upon donations from members and friends to enable us to fulfill our mission of turning no one away due to an inability to pay. If you would like to donate or volunteer as a Strong Kids Campaign fundraiser, please contact our Fund Development and Communications Director Mary S. Park at 212-912-2525 or email@example.com. Beginning on Monday, March 25 thru Friday, March 29 we will be hosting our annual YMCA Splash Week. It is a FREE program created to help people of all ages, children and adults to learn basic swimming skills and water safety practices. Learning water safety and swimming skills helps participants to be safe in and around water. This builds self-confidence and selfesteem which carries over into other parts of life. During Splash Week swimmers learn about the Y’s holistic approach combining spirit, mind and body. Please visit our membership desk to register beginning on Monday, March 4. Last day to register is on Sunday, March 24.
