Conway Junior High School students pose for a picture at the entrance to the St. Louis Zoo. The students got to go on the trip as a reward for good behavior.
Good behavior rewarded with a trip to St. Louis Zoo NATASHA SHANZ & LOGAN SCHMIDT CHRONICLES@LCR1.ORG
Seventh and eighth graders at Conway Junior High School got to go on a good behavior trip on May 10 to the St. Louis Zoo. In order to be invited on the trip, students must have had no tardies or write ups, and they had to stay out of trouble during the second semester. There were 66 students who were invited on the trip. Tammy Beckler, who is a coach at
Conway High School, suggested this trip to the zoo. Coach Beckler said, “This trip to the zoo was a nice way to reward the students who have stayed out of trouble and kept their grades high and the students got to enjoy a day off of school.” Beckler said, “I chose the St. Louis Zoo instead of something like Silver Dollar City because I tried to pick a place that wasn’t expensive and allowed all qualified kids to go have fun. There is something there
for everyone.” The entire trip to the zoo was 100 percent free unless students brought money to ride the train, go to the petting zoo, etc. The group also went to McDonald’s after the trip but overall the entire trip was very inexpensive to the students. Coach said, “I was probably more excited than the students for the trip. It was an awesome experience. I hope to go back next year or any other place and just have fun with the students. I also hope that
next year more students will be invited on the trip.” Marlen Sanchez and Danielle Cantrell are both junior high students who went to zoo. Marlen said, “My favorite part of going to the zoo was seeing all the animals and getting to hang out with my friends. The entire trip to the zoo was really fun.” Danielle said, “My favorite part was getting to skip school and seeing all the animals. The trip was a really fun experience, and I would like to do a trip like this next year.”
