The sun is rising quickly. I must get out of bed. There’s so much I must do today, there’s music in my head.
Today I’ll be a rock star on the cover of a magazine. I’ ll be the biggest superstar the world has ever seen.
I want to be a singer, the leader of a band. We’ll tour across the country in a beat-up yellow van.
I want to be a rapper telling stories with my words. There’ ll be music in my poetry matched to beats you’ve never heard.
I want to be a country star. I’ll be the very best. I’ll sing of open countrysides and pretty gals out west.
I want to play in metal bands. I’ll make my guitar soar. The music will be thunderous and the audience will roar.
I want to be a pop star and be crowned the King of Pop. I’ll moonwalk right across the stage and dance ’til I can’t stop.
I want to be a punk rocker, with a drum kit made of tins. My hair will be a mohawk. I’ll wear studs and safety pins.
I want to be in jazz bands playing big band, swing and blues. I’ll wear a stylish porkpie hat and shiny lace-up shoes.
I want to be a rocker and wriggle when I sing. I’ll swing my hips from side to side and shake up everything.
I want to be a rock legend. I’ll paint a mask upon my face. There’s silver dragons on my feet and rhythm thumping through my bass.
I want to be a DJ. I’ll mix some wicked beats, with vinyl records on my decks and dancing in the streets.
I want to be a disco dude in a funky disco vest. There’s coloured lights down on the floor and gold chains on my chest.
I want to play in orchestras with violins and flutes, with oboes, harps, and xylophones and shiny wooden lutes.
It’s time to go to bed now. It’s been a busy day. Tomorrow I’ll be someone else with a whole new game to play!
For Lukey (my little Rock Star) May you always have the passion to follow your dreams and the courage to build a life beyond your own imagination.
To Anil Tortop Thank you for breathing life into my imaginings with your beautiful illustrations - you’ve helped bring my dream to life.
