DECISIVENESS Objectives There are two types of interviews; traditional and competency based. Most of us have only experienced the first, however in the last 3 years these types of interviews have become more popular with HR managers. Whatâ€™s the difference between the two types? Traditional interview structures usually involve an HR manager asking a series of general questions with the objective of finding out whether your skill base and educational background match with the companies requirements. They are easier to prepare for and can consist of very basic questions that do not necessarily require you to provide examples. CBI interviews require you to justify your experience and demonstrate how your educational background and experience is suited to the position applied for. Key areas of questioning are in personnel, interpersonal, motivation, decision making and people skills. The objective of this lesson plan is to help you to demonstrate your abilities with examples of situations, to develop sentence constructions, increase vocabulary and confidence.

Talk about a decision that you took the longest time to deliberate.
What was the last business decision that you faced?
Describe a situation where you had to demonstrate confidence in your viewpoint despite opposition from others.
Describe a situation where you had to trust in your own judgement in order to make a difficult decision.
Working on your own
Describe a situation where you had to work on your own without any guidance.
What the the limitations of your authority and have you ever had to exceed those limitations?
Describe a time where you were angry or upset at work.
Describe a time when you had to work under an extreme amount of pressure.
Describe another occasion where you had to work towards an important deadline.
Provide an example of where you have had to modify your approach because of a shift in priorities.
Provide an example of how you sell ideas to clients or colleagues.
How do you ensure that you are working within company guidelines and within your area of responsibility?
Describe significant changes that have taken place over the last year within your current job. Explain how you have coped with these changes.
Describe some of the risks that you have taken either in your business or professional life.
