About Varaždin Varaždin is a small city located in the northern region of Croatia, about 81 kilometres north of Zagreb. Its surroundings are symbolised by exceptional natural and cultural diversity and rich experiences. Head through the hills of Varaždin, explore the castles, the wine roads and have the taste of the traditional Croatian food. (Varazdin.hr, 2018) Varaždin is often referred to as the “little Vienna” for its unique baroque architecture (MacGregor, 2013). It is a city of rich history and culture with numerous festivals and events occurring throughout the year; the most famous festivals being Špancirfest, which is the Street Festival held for two weeks in late August, and Varaždin Baroque Evenings, which are held in late September and celebrates classical music and the barque inheritance (Varazdin.hr, 2018). Varaždin also inherited the name “The City of Angels” for being the home of numerous angel sculptures created by the sculptor Željko Prstec. Angels can be found all across the city, the oldest one being on Varazdin's coat of arms dating back to the 15th century, located on the City Hall. There is also a Museum of Angels in the city. (Krešo, 2012) From children to elderly, Varaždin is the perfect destination for all age groups. There are fun activities and events for children to enjoy and participate in during summer festivals, the nightlife in Varaždin is suitable for young people, as there are many bars and clubs all around the town, and it is active throughout the whole year. The elderly, or anyone interested in mere culture and arts, may simply visit the city to enjoy its beauty and solitude, or escape the busy every-day life by visiting the city's five cultural institutes; The Croatian National Theatre (HNK), the City Museum, Varaždin Concert Hall, the City Library and the Art Gallery (Varazdin.hr, 2018).
