Precedent Analysis

Reading: Zeara Polo, A. 2010. Between Ideas and Matters.

According to Zeara-Polo, the diagram does not play a representational role in the design process but provides an organisational and can have a performative quality depending on how it is deployed. Explain how Diagram is different from Signs and Symbols? (100 words Maximum)

Signs can be categorized into index, icon and symbol. The concept of symbol or signs is the simplified object, including property information. However, the idea and information that they contain are simple. Diagram is the mediate between physical construct, concept and prospects on an organized level. Diagram is not limited by logic which made it own the ability of taking our design into another level. It is not only an outcome, it is the path of abstraction as the tool that collect idea on human’s inborn ability to compact informoation and ideas.

By starting with the photography based on research, i have learned the basic structure of Radix, which i found that its structure is easy to understand. Then, i have imported the plan which contains the dimantions of the model into Rhino. The basci steps are built cuboid, and two sphere with one ellipsoid inside this cuboid. The model is finishied after using the booleandifferce command. The difficulty that were found during the process is the adjustment of the position of those spheres and ellipsoid, if one of them is not positoned in the right place or angle, the final appearance of model can be wrong.

Isometric

Reading: Hertzberger H. 2005. The in-between and The Habitable Space Between Things, from Lessons for Students in Architecture. Herzberger discuss how design should not be extreme in its functionality. Use your precedent study to explain how the pavilion allows for an appropriation of use. (100 words Maximum) Radix.

Instead of using the isometric view of model, I choose to use the view that in a lower point of view. This point of view can bring more information of the inside structure, and demonstrate the thresholds of Radix. It would give

Herzberger discussed about the idea that the design of space should be flexible, it can leads the wider range of uses. If the purpose of space is too specific, visitor would lead by the instruction instead of giving up the potential possibility of function which can be discovered by them. The lack of functional specificity allows the pavilion provide a range of different activities by changing the inside furniture.

people an more clear understanding the circulation, how can visitors interact with it in reality and the open and semi-open space it have created.

In addition, objects should designed with a greater efficiency which they form can adapt accordingly to changing circumstances. The big and small openings have created the passage and enclosure for visitor, and the podium under the pavilion that used as flooring provide stairs and informal seating place.
