Reading: Kolerevic B. 2003. Architecture in the Digital Age
Kolerevic described three fundamental type of fabrication techniques in the reading. Outline the three techniques and discuss the potential of Computer Numeric Controlled fabrication with parametric modelling. (150 words max)
The Subtractive Fabrication, Additive Fabrication and Formative Fabrication has consist the three fundamental type of fabrication. Subtractive Fabrication included the laser cut and CNC milling. 3-5 axes are used for controlling the cutting tool. It is able to remove a certain volume or material from a solid by using electro, chemically or mechanically reductive process. Affective Fabrication is where material can be applied in a layer; it is completed by creating a solid model that has been digitized by slicing it into 2d layer. Formative Fabrication is the process of reshaping or deformation of a material. This fabrication is done by the use of machine, force will be applied for restricting the form of material. Heat and steam may be used. CNC fabrication is a significant tool for modeling parametric design. Computer controls it, which allow the remove of the demand of technique drawing and bring lower cost and higher accuracy. In addition, it can creates numerous iterations of the designs
The process of scripting and iterating surfaces was simple to understand at the begining, and it gots more diffcults to follow and cleraly understand the purpose of each components. On the other hand, it built another way to understand the behind principle of how does the modelmaking works in Rhino, and it also simplified the process but with more accuracy within the
Within the process of scripting, the most interesting parts for me is change the patter of surafce by simplely altering the number sliders. It shows the accuracy and convenience of Grasshoper again. Those surface can be easily limited within X,Y,Z coordinates.
week Four Panels & Waffle
There are various types panels have been tried before the final two types of panel. It starts with the same type of hollow panel but with different shape at the top of panel, which only just a simple square. For the next steps, the different shape, thicker, thinner, bigger or smaller panel are tried. Some of them can form a interesting patter, but those usually will not be able to developed. After those test, the final panel which suits the wanted patter and design purpose is selected.
The main purpose of task 1 for the further potential is to attract people to explore the exterior and interior by creating a semi-close space and the use of lighting. Thus, the way that the waffle strictures connect to each other is the top waffles forms an inwards angle and then generally changes into an outwards angle. There are various tests before get the final results as well. The main difficult is how to fit the two basic surfaces into the 150x150x150 box and change the way they interact with each other.
week Four The process of finishing the laser cut actually cost lots of time due to the panel. The final panel contains lots of structure lines once they have been unrolled. For solving this issue, I decide to change it into another panel which has the square on the top, but the same shape can be formed by folding the mid line of each surface of the panel. The reason I decided to do it in this way is I found the original shape can be changed into a squared by using the SoildPton command in rhino. The next step is simplely MeshToNude, unrolled, dupborad and add tabs.

The process of making the waffle is quite simple and same as the process that the workshop went through.

This process is interesting as it is related to the 3D volume and the random factors. As the sphere was used in the workshop, the first test is started with this volume as well. There some disadvantages appearance within the process, the cut section always have some unavoidable places which are too thin for 3d painting, in addition, the volumes that been created look quite seprated,the potential and possibility is not enough for a pavilion. The next volume that i have tried is rhombic, which I have found more possibility with the Boolean section.
The first pare is about the whole shape. The reason of choosing the Rhombic as the volume in the process of Boolean is it can create a continuous shape. The unified shape that forms the whole model has brought the sense of continuity and more potential of further development for it. Similar the idea of how does the Group form develop in architecture way. The whole pavilion can be seen as a whole, but also the single unified shape can be the element for the further development. Secondly, there are some potential in term of thresholds. The two edges at bottom form a opening with outwards angle, which would give the visitors the feeling of being welcome. In addition, the smaller opening between those unified shapes can be seen as the windows for the pavilion, which can bring the sunlight for the building during day time.
week Six Task 01
Task 01 Matrix The forth one is the final panle that have been choiced. The hollow part at the top of each panel allows the light pass through, which can create shadows inside the pavilion,and it can consist a semi-closed pavilion with the waffle strcture, it allows people see through part of the interior, but not all of it. This visual effect might attracts people to expore more about the pavilion by walking into it. On the other hand, The hollow top with different shape creates the different apperance of shadow that inside the pavilion, it can be combined with the opposite side shadows. The proper light condition and different time are able to change the apperance of shadows
week Six Task 02
Task 02 Matrix The first two Boolean sections are the tests with the use of sphere. The results can be found that did not really appearance to be continuous. The third is the final version with the use of rhombic. The last version is another experiment after send the third version to fablab. The final result shows the third section has more sense of conunity and more potential and possibility for development.
