It’s been my great honor and privilege to serve as the Chairman of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame since 2007. For more than a half century, I’ve been involved in the culture and community of football. I believe we’ve seen a renewed emphasis on the values that make football great— teamwork, resilience and leadership.

For more than 75 years, the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame has expanded its influence and reach. Through our programs and initiatives that are instrumental in amplifying the power of football to build stronger athletes, students, and community leaders, we are able to promote and protect the game and the opportunities it provides.

ABOUT THE DINNER The crown jewel of the National Football Foundation is the Annual Awards Dinner presented by Las Vegas.

Since 1958, the Dinner has been the place to gather for all of those involved with intercollegiate football and beyond. It remains one of the most important events on the sports calendar and a must attend for athletics directors, collegiate commissioners, head football coaches, television executives and anyone associated with football.

Each December in Las Vegas, the NFF Annual Awards Dinner hosts the induction of the College Football Hall of Fame Class, recognition of the National ScholarAthlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments, the announcement of the William V. Campbell Trophy® to college football’s top scholar-athlete, and the awarding of other honors, including the NFF’s Gold Medal. The Annual Awards Dinner traditionally takes place the second Tuesday after Thanksgiving, launching the college football postseason.

NFF Major Awards The National Football Foundation awards deserving individuals for their dedication to the game in various ways.

The recipients are recognized at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner. NFF Major Awards include: NFF Gold Medal, the highest and most prestigious award presented by the NFF, recognizing an outstanding American who has demonstrated integrity and honesty; achieved significant career success; and has reflected the basic values of those who have excelled in amateur sport, particularly football. Former recipients include seven U.S. Presidents, four generals, three admirals, one Supreme Court Justice, 29 corporate CEOs and chairmen, actors Mark Harmon and John Wayne and baseball immortal Jackie Robinson.

MacArthur Bowl Trophy, presented to every national champion since 1959. The award represents the pinnacle of team achievement in college sports. No other trophy boasts such a rich history and better symbolizes teamwork, coordinated effort, dedication, discipline and the desire to win.

Distinguished American Award, paying tribute to an individual who has made significant contributions to the betterment of amateur football in the United States.

The recipient must have maintained a lifetime of interest in the game and exhibited enviable leadership qualities over a long period of time.

Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football, recognizing those whose efforts to support the NFF and its goals and have made significant contributions to the game of football, either to the manner in which it is played and coached or to the manner in which it is enjoyed by spectators.

hall of FAME on-Campus salutes Presented by Fidelity Investments The NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, which began with the inaugural College Football Hall of Fame Class in 1951, have become a hallowed tradition, and to this day, the singular events remain the first of numerous activities in each electee’s Hall of Fame experience.

During the NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salutes, each inductee will return to his respective school to accept a Hall of Fame plaque that will stay on permanent display at the institution. The events take place on the field during a home game, and many Hall of Famers cite the experience as the ultimate capstone to their careers, providing them one more chance to take the field and be recognized in front of their home crowd.

NFF Scholar-Athlete Programs and Initiatives Since the launch of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards in 1959, the NFF has remained in the vanguard of promoting the scholar-athlete ideal with a dozen programs currently in place.

The NFF has a wide range of programs and initiatives designed to support colleges and universities in efforts to attract, develop and support student-athletes. The NFF currently distributes more than $1.3 million each year in scholarships, including $300,000 at the national level and more than $1 million through its chapter network at the grassroots level.

The NFF works hard to support universities and their athletics departments to promote the good in the game and the scholarathlete ideal, reinforcing our belief that excellence on the field and in the classroom are deeply intertwined.

The NFF Chapter Network, spread across 120 outposts

in 47 states, serves as the pulse of a nationwide effort to encourage leadership, sportsmanship and academic excellence among America’s young football players. More than 12,000 passionate members host over 300 events each year, reaching more than 600,000 football players at 6,000 high schools.

The NFF high school showcases, free to both participants

and college recruiters, provide academically eligible high school seniors an opportunity to go through a series of drills in front of college coaches from the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA levels, with 11,950 student-athletes participating since the program’s inception. Founded in 2009, events in Houston, Southern California, Florida, North Carolina and Detroit attracted recruiters from 145 colleges and 30 states in 2022, showcasing more than 1,900 aspiring college players with an estimated one of four receiving at least one form of collegiate financial aid. held in february and march

Faculty Salutes Presented by Fidelity Investments for Dr. George Pierce, Georgia State University

NFF Faculty salutes, presented by fidelity investments, launched in 2011, are an extension of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards Program that provides postgraduate scholarships for college football’s elite student-athletes. As part of the program, each school with a member of the NFF Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments receives recognition for their faculty athletics representative, and a $5,000 donation per school from Fidelity is made to support the academic support services for student-athletes at each school. The salutes have recognized 168 FARs since the program’s inception, and Fidelity has made a total of $830,000 in donations. announced in november

The NFF Education Committee was established in 2023 with a focus of developing an aggressive plan to support the aforementioned objectives and reinforce the value of an education.

History of the Campbell Trophy ® 1990

Bill Campbell The centerpiece to the NFF’s scholar-athlete program, the William V. Campbell Trophy® Presented by Fidelity Investments® was first awarded in 1990. It is named in honor of the late Bill Campbell, former chairman of Intuit, former player and head coach at Columbia University and the 2004 recipient of the NFF’s Gold Medal.

National Scholar-Athlete Awards Presented by Fidelity Investments The NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards Presented by Fidelity Investments, which launched in 1959 and celebrated its 64th year in 2022, became the first initiative in history to award postgraduate scholarships based on a player’s combined academic, athletic and leadership capabilities.

Since 2008, Fidelity Investments has served as a proud partner of the program, which has awarded $12.3 million to 906 top athletes from 273 colleges and universities.

Nominated by their schools, candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility, have a grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Fame inductees and athletics administrators. The committee traditionally selects 12-14 scholarathletes from across the country for these prestigious $18,000 scholarships.

Past recipients have used their postgraduate scholarships to set the standard for excellence in our society, earning more than 150 medical degrees, 100 law degrees, 80 MBAs and 45 PhDs. Others have used the financial backing to enhance their successful careers in finance, consulting and engineering.

Continuing their excellence on the field, a number of recipients have played in the NFL, including Christian Wilkins, Joe Thomas, Peyton Manning, Lee Roy Selmon and Steve Young.

Others have made it big in a variety of fields, including UCLA's Mark Harmon, an actor and film producer; Nebraska Athletics Director Trev Alberts; Harvard's Andrew Berry, General Manager of the Cleveland Browns; Richmond's Leland Melvin, NASA astronaut; and Georgia's Billy Payne, the former chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club.

The Campbell Trophy ® Summit The Campbell Trophy® Summit, sponsored by Intuit Inc. and founded by Mark Flynn in 2018, takes place each summer on the campus of Stanford University in California. All past semifinalists, finalists and winners of the Campbell Trophy® are invited to attend, with a special emphasis on the most recent year’s nominees. The event provides a powerful opportunity for the recent graduates to interact and learn from many of the nation’s top entrepreneurs and Silicon Valley CEOs about the lessons that have guided them to the highest levels of success.

The 2023 NFF Hampshire Honor Society is composed of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers. An impressive 1,734 players from 328 schools qualified for membership in the Society’s 17th year, bringing the total number of honorees to more than 16 thousand all-time. Jon F. Hanson, the chairman and founder of The Hampshire Companies, provided the endowment to launch the NFF Hampshire Honor Society in 2007. He made the contribution as part of his legacy to the organization after serving as NFF Chairman from 1994-2006.

He currently serves the organization as chairman emeritus. Each player awarded with membership in the Honor Society receives a certificate commemorating his or her achievement.

NFF Leadership Hall of Fame Launched in 2013 as a powerful new vehicle for recognizing the country’s most influential individuals who have ascended to the highest levels of success, Leadership Hall of Fame honorees are selected based on their demonstrated outstanding leadership abilities and their commitment to following the highest ethical standards in carrying out the mission, goals and initiatives of an organization.

Inductees into the NFF Leadership Hall of Fame must embody the same qualities in amateur football that define excellence in American life: hard work, discipline, determination, teamwork, integrity, appreciation of others and the relentless pursuit to improve.

As part of the induction process into the Leadership Hall of Fame, the NFF stages a special dinner to celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of each inductee in a city of relevance to their career. Family, friends, peers, supporters and admirers attend the event, and each honoree receives a specially designed ring during the ceremony. Following the event, the NFF permanently enshrines each inductee’s contributions as part of an exhibit at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. The NFF Leadership Hall of Fame events serve as a centerpiece of the NFF’s annual fundraising efforts, providing critical support for the organization’s scholar-athlete programs and outreach efforts that emphasize the value of football to society.

FUTURE FOR FOOTBALL

Future For Football is a cross-platform mixed media campaign created

in 2018 to celebrate the positive impact the game has made on millions of players, coaches, administrators, volunteers and fans nationwide.

The campaign's in-depth storytelling content highlights leagues and players around the country, the many ways to be involved in the game on and off the field, as well as those behind the scenes advancing technology and equipment at all stages to take the game to the next level.

The campaign has produced over 1,500 original content pieces with more than 10 million minutes of video viewed. Campaign storytelling has engaged millions of individuals through its social channels and PSAs, shared both in-stadium and during game broadcasts. Future For Football has also partnered with the City Mom Collective to garner additional grassroots activation in both rural and urban markets across the country.

The campaign has received more than 40 national awards for excellence in marketing and communications, including the 2022 Webby Award for Best Social Campaign - Sports Video Series, awarded for the original series #MakeYourPlay.

The campaign was recently named a 2023 Webby Nominee for Best Video Series - Sports for the 4-part original series “Today’s Technology, Tomorrow’s Players,” which highlights companies like Riddell Helmets, Wilson Football, X-Tech Pads, and Q-Collar who are working to better the game.

CHICK-FIL-A COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME IN ATLANTA The state-of-the-art and highly interactive facility, located in the heart of Atlanta, brings the game to life for fans of all ages while paying tribute to the game’s greatest legends.

The Hall measures 94,256 square feet, including 50,000 square feet of exhibit space and a 45-yard indoor football field. The attraction offers a total “Fan Experience” matching traditional, museum-quality memorabilia with interactive, multimedia exhibits that invite fans and visitors to engage with their favorite college football team or Hall of Famer. Fans are given an RFID-enabled all-access pass as they enter the building and are immediately greeted by the threestory helmet wall representing all 773 four-year U.S. colleges and universities with football teams. When fans register their RFID All-Access Pass, their school’s helmet actually lights up. As fans explore the rest of the building, the RFID badge continues to pull and display information about their school throughout their tour. It is also the home of the National Hall of Fame Salute, showcasing the newest members of the College Football Hall of Fame as the inductees see their legendary accomplishments permanently immortalized for the first time.

NFF OUTREACH American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) — The NFF provides an update on the state of the NFF and the state of the game at one of their quarterly board meetings each year. The NFF also presents the organization’s divisional (NCAA FCS, NCAA Div. II, NCAA Div. III, NAIA) national championship trophies at the AFCA annual convention.

Army-Navy Game — The NFF is asked by both Academies to attend the annual Army-Navy Game and Army-Navy Gala each year. In 2022, the NFF started a new tradition of bringing a group of Board members to America’s Game.

College Football Officiating (CFO) — Since 2014, the NFF has hosted the winter meeting of the CFO in the NFF’s office building.

College Football Playoff (CFP) — Since the inaugural game in 2015, the NFF has partnered with the CFP on the announcement of the College Football Hall of Fame Class, on-field recognition of both the College Football Hall of Fame Class and the recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy® before and during the National Championship game. NFF events at the National Championship including the hosting of the FWAA Past Presidents Dinner and NFF Leadership Hall of Fame Induction Dinner (not every year) are listed by the CFP as official events.

College Sports Communicators (CSC) — The NFF is asked to attend and participate in their annual convention.

Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) — The NFF partners with the CSFL to ensure that their scholar-athletes are included and recognized within the NFF Hampshire Honor Society.

Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) — Since 2007, the NFF has hosted the FWAA’s Past Presidents Dinner at the CFP National Championship. Since 2014, the NFF has partnered with the FWAA on the FWAA-NFF Super 16 Poll. The NFF also has a seat on the FWAA Board.

Globe Life Field/Choctaw Stadium — The Texas Rangers Baseball Club owned facilities in Arlington, Texas, feature the NFF PSA on stadium videoboards during all football related events taking place at the two stadiums, including to date: Army vs Air Force, NCAA FCS regular season games, regular season and state playoff high school football games and the XFL. Great Lawn at State Farm Stadium’s Sportsman Park — During game day at the VRBO Fiesta Bowl, NFF graphics and logos were featured prominently in this public entertainment space located next to the stadium in Glendale, AZ. Heisman Trophy — The recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy® is seated on the dais and recognized at the Heisman Trophy banquet.
