Location & Facilities

Lake District Summer Music is a closely integrated International Festival and Summer Music Academy.

The International Summer Music Academy offers students a varied and rich musical experience.

The 2011 International Summer Music Academy is based at exciting new facilities at the spectacular Windermere School campus.

Inspiring Coaching with Leading International Artists The full daily timetable includes individual lessons, instrumental classes, and ensemble coaching. Exchange ideas, attend open lessons, enjoy festival concerts, form a chamber group. Open classes give the opportunity to benefit from a wealth of faculty expertise.

Join an International Community Meet colleagues, broaden horizons and learn from some of the most distinguished professionals. Socialise with Festival Artists and Tutors in a friendly and welcoming summer academy campus.

Career-enhancing Festival Opportunities Play alongside other emerging professionals coming from countries all around the world in our International Festival. This is your chance to excel and begin to build your reputation at one of the “Ten truly festive festivals” in the world (Daily Telegraph).

Great Facilities and a Stunning Location Set in the heart of the inspirational English Lake District this course provides special opportunities for musicians pursuing a professional career in music. Good tutorial rooms, quality practice and concert pianos, a specialised music library, comfortable accommodation, good food – all set in an inspiring campus at the heart of one of the world’s most beautiful locations.

Chamber Music Course The daily schedule is planned to provide preformed ensembles with one hour coaching sessions per day from a member of a top international ensemble or chamber musician. Ensembles are expected to prepare repertoire for study and performance – complete works and individual shorter pieces.

Solo Instrumental Course Solo instrumentalists are scheduled to receive 40-45 minute individual lessons every other day from top international performers and professors. Instrumental teachers will structure their own schedules of solo and class lessons.

Joint Course Options Course flexibility allows you to benefit from both chamber music and solo instrumental lessons. Ensemble members can apply to receive individual lessons. Solo instrumentalists have the opportunity to join together in a new ensemble and receive coaching.

Performance Opportunities Dedicated “LDSM Young Artist” concerts in our International Festival specifically profile ISMA chamber ensembles and soloists. These public performance opportunities can lead to professional engagements offered by other promoters and festivals. Many students will also have the opportunity to perform in one of our two large ensembles alongside professional Festival artists.
