WE ARE WHERE YOU
Opening an office in Cardiff demonstrates LDC’s desire and commitment to businesses in Wales. Working closely with the local corporate finance community and directly with management teams, we can help drive value in Welsh companies. As a born-and-bred Welshman, I am very proud to be launching LDC’s Cardiff office, which will be the only on-the-ground presence of mid-market private equity in the country. During my almost 20 years’ experience as part of the local corporate finance advisory community, I have witnessed first-hand the ambition and quality of businesses and management teams in Wales. Now, we have the opportunity to go one step further and provide the capital, operational support and connections that these companies need to fulfil their growth potential and build on what is already a thriving hub for business activity. As one of the UK’s leading private equity houses, LDC has an impressive track record having backed management teams for more than 35 years. Part of Lloyds Banking Group, the team has completed more than 500 investments since 1981 and has ongoing interests in over 90 businesses across its regional network. With a pledge to invest up to £1.2billion in British businesses over the next three years, it is an exciting time to come on board and help accelerate support for Wales based businesses and their management teams in achieving growth and help build a stronger economy. Yours sincerely, DEWI HUGHES

LDC has a unique networked offering, meaning firms have dedicated teams in their localities with expert knowledge of each region and their business landscapes. The addition of a Welsh office to LDC’s South West team will ensure management teams here receive the bespoke approach to private equity that is so important to our country’s businesses. LDC’s investment strategy is to back people, not just businesses. It is the relationship between a firm’s management and investment teams that make private equity such a powerful tool. This collaborative approach means there is more support, experience and expertise to drive business decisions, and ultimately, achieve significant growth.

In 2007 LDC supported the secondary buyout of Bridgend, Cardiff and Tredegar-based pharmaceutical manufacturer Penn Pharmaceuticals. Over a seven year tenure, Penn launched its worldleading manufacturing facility and revenue grew from £17m to £30m, with its headcount increasing 50%. The business was sold in 2014 to Packaging Co-ordinators Inc, a US-headquartered global leading packaging services provider in a £127m deal.
In 2015 LDC’s portfolio business Inprova Group acquired Caerphilly-based UES Energy to further expand its energy services offering as part of its plan to double the size of the business and tap into the firm’s strong Welsh client base.
LDC supported the creation of Cardiff-based Boom Pictures, which then successfully merged with international TV production firm Twofour Group. Following a three year investment period with the business, LDC exited through a sale to ITV plc in 2015 giving the business the opportunity to take its content to a global audience.
