A letterCLub from our President Lewis Community Spouses

Volume 6 Issue 1

April McClung

Hello fall! September and October are my favorite months! Leaves changing, cold weather and pumpkins are the best! It's also the beginning of the year for LCSC. If you missed our first luncheon, it's ok! It's never too late to join us! We won't have a luncheon in October because we have an evening event (Mock Dining In on October 7 th) and our Holiday Market (Oct 28th & 29th-don't forget your canned food item for an extra opportunity ticket). Our Board Members and volunteers are working hard to make these events the best ever! On October 20th we have an opportunity for you to give back to our community at the Emergency Food Network. See our Helping Hands FB page (LCSC Helping Hands) for more info.

Our 1st Vice President – Pam McFarland Happy Fall! A big shout out to all that attended the September luncheon. I’m a huge sports fan, so it was great to see everyone’s sporting attire and which teams you follow. Our Mock Dining In on October 7th is the next event for LCSC. I can’t wait. Which unit will bring it? I look forward to seeing all of your fun ideas that I know you have brewing. Don’t forget about our Holiday Market at the end of October (Oct 28&29). We look forward to having many vendors. It’s only $2 to get in and start your holiday shopping early. I love to support handmade and small businesses and this will be a great event for doing just that. Because of these events, we will not be hosting a luncheon in October, but we hope to see you at one of these two big events…OR stop by our newly opened Cottage Boutique. The new boutique has moved to near the Thrift Store and is currently open for business. So many creative and fun gift items available. Shopping hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays from 10am-2pm. Also, the first Saturday of the month, it’s open with the same hours. So grab a friend and come out to one of our many events going on in October. Hope to see you there! You can always find more information about any of our events on our webpage:

Kara Bridge – Our 2nd Vice President One of the many things that I love about military life is that your military friends become a part of your family. They’re basically essential for surviving military life. Whether keeping you sane during a year-long deployment or entertaining you during the dark, rainy winters of the PNW. Good friends are a must! The best part of military friendships is when you feel at home at their house. You no longer ring the doorbell, you just walk it with a “Hello, it’s me,” so that no one has to get off the couch to open the door. You dig into the bag of pretzels & Nutella on the counter without asking because it looks so good. You bring them their favorite drink from the shopette when they are home with sick kids. They don’t judge you when they see your house with toys scattered, dished piled up, and clean laundry all over the dining table that needs to be folded. Military friendships last a lifetime. Please embrace your time in this crazy military life. Get out and see the local sights. Get out and meet new friends and grow your military family. Join us for one of our monthly luncheons or our many sub-clubs. I encourage each of you to bring a friend to our next LCSC luncheon on Thursday, November 10. We will be honoring our veterans and spouses in a special “Through the Decades” luncheon.

LCSC Sub Clubs In Action! PNW Explorers The Pacific Northwest Explorers held their first adventure at Duris Cucumber Farm in Puyallup on Thursday, September 22, 2016. The group attended a class on how to make cold pack pickles and then shopped at the quaint, produce shop that sells everything you need to make pickles. The group then moved on to Watson’s Greenhouse and Nursery for more shopping and lunch at Anton’s Café. The explorers meet the third Thursday of each month and the day is planned to work around the school day. Group Leader Peggy Cleveland also posts an activity each month that you can enjoy on weekends with your family. If you are interested check out our Facebook page, Pacific Northwest Explorers. It is a closed group so you must ask to join. All messaging and announcements are through this page. Our next adventure is October 20, 2016.

Wine Club The Wine Club had their first meeting on October 1st. Peggy Cleveland ran this month’s meeting and she used the Wine Spectator’s Wine Tasting Kit as a guide for the tasting. This was a great way to taste a wonderful variety of whites and reds. If you’re interested in joining the next meeting find us on Facebook at Lewis Community Wine Club

The Sub Club Hub Join Our Sub Clubs! The Sub Club Hub We love the luncheons, we love giving back to your community, we love the mock dining-in, but have you tried one our sub clubs? A sub club is an amazing perk of being a member of the LCSC. These clubs focus on fun and fellowship with members who all share a common interest. These clubs are a great way to form lifelong friendships. Come on out and roll those dice, discuss great books, learn to cook new foods, or enjoy some of Washington’s finest wine amongst your LCSC friends! For this 2016-2017 year, we have an exciting variety of sub clubs to entertain everyone’s interests. Here is what we are offering this year:

Be inspired to feel more comfortable in the kitchen. Cooking is an art and you can get as creative as you want! We will introduce recipes from our collective backgrounds. We want to look to our membership for recipes from their heritage and also if we have anyone particularly skilled in certain cooking/baking skills ask that you join us and share your talent! At our monthly meetings we plan on demonstrating at least one recipe, and then enjoying lunch together. So bring your appetite to learn and to eat! Please contact Cal Brokamp for more information!

Sometimes it is exciting to read outside of the same genre of book you always read. Sometimes just looking at the cover of a book makes you not want to read it. However, in our book club, we are a group of ladies from all walks of life who enjoy all different genres. Join us on the 3rd Tuesday of every month as a different book club member chooses a book, hosts with snacks, and we discuss our thoughts and feelings of the book we’ve just reading. Contact Kelly Nix for more info!

Are you the next Monet or do you always end up with your finger stuck to the end of the glue gun? It doesn’t matter! The arts and crafts club welcome everyone! These crafty spouses will share their expertise and fuel your creative fire with crafts ranging from wreath creation to stained glass and decoupage. There is something for everyone in this craft club. We are still looking for a leader for this club, if you’re interested please contact us!

Bunco is a fun dice game to play - no experience necessary! Please join us at the LCSC Schoolhouse on the last Tuesday of each month as we socialize and eat beginning at 6:00pm and start rolling the dice at 6:30pm. We ask everyone to bring a dish to share and $5 to play. We play for prizes – 6 prizes to win each month! The hostesses each month buys the prizes, provides snacks for the tables, and drinks to share. It is a great way to socialize and make friends. Please contact Vicki Jurgensmeier and Joanna Scully for more information!

Each month, our host will pick a restaurant location to gather at which allows our LCSC Lunch Bunch members to experience different

cultures and tastes throughout the South Puget area. We meet the 3rd Tuesday from 11:30am1pm, with each member responsible for purchasing their own lunch. This is a great opportunity to learn the area, try new restaurants and cuisines, and make new friends! Contact Caryn Anderson for more information! Wine Club Come, relax, and enjoy a glass of wine amongst LCSC friends! We live in wine country, so let’s explore it! This delectable group will learn how to taste wine like a true wine snob and to pair hors d’oeuvres and desserts with the perfect wine selection like a true culinary pro! We hope to share reviews on bottles of wine, have tastings in our homes, or go to different wineries or wine bars where we can enjoy the fruits of the land. Contact Peggy Cleveland for more information!

The intent of the PNW Explorers is to explore all that the Puget Sound has to offer with your closest LCSC friends. Think adult field trips! Let’s hike, shop, and explore this amazing area together! Contact Peggy Cleveland for more information!
