Pocket Nature Reserve

Work has been progressing to create the new ‘Pocket Nature Reserve’ on the old disused all-weather pitch next to the Beacon Academy. The chance to create a brand new nature reserve near the centre of town is a wonderful and rare opportunity and our Ranger’s first priority has been to ensure he fully understands the existing habitat and the wildlife that currently call this area home. It is very important that we don’t destroy nature in order to create a nature reserve! Regular surveys of the site by the Ranger, other ecologists, bird/butterfly experts and volunteers have been taking place over the past two years. This work has provided much invaluable information and has helped us to determine how best to create the reserve so that it can attract and support as much wildlife biodiversity as possible.
