Welcome to Leighton Buzzard Rugby Club
Leighton Buzzard Rugby Football Club is a community rugby club with many senior players who turn out regularly for the club and we are always looking out for more!! The club was founded in 1934 by people with a passion to play rugby. Our strong membership of young, old and ex-players continue to play and support us with passion to this day. Our First XV currently plays in the very competitive Midlands 2 East South, one of the top 250 clubs in the country. The Second and Third XV also play in the RFU league structure in the Midlands division. We have a Senior and Junior Academy covering boys from under 13 to under 18. They play and train in a structured programme with RFU qualified coaches aiming to allow all the players to fulfil their potential and play at the highest level they can. These are our future first team players. Our mini section is one of the biggest in the East Midlands with over 200 players enjoying the game and learning the core rugby values every Sunday morning. From September 2019 we will be offering rugby to girls aged 5-14, fielding a Women’s team and providing women’s touch rugby every Tuesday. Playing rugby is fun, social and all members of the family can enjoy playing from our fledglings through to our senior sides. Rugby’s values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship are what makes the game special for those who enjoy the environment and culture they create. On behalf of the players and the club, I would like to welcome you to the Buzzard family and thank you for supporting your local rugby club. Kind Regards Lee Beaumont Club Chairman Leighton Buzzard RFC

Safeguarding Child Safety If you are a parent or carer please do not leave a child at the club for training or a fixture without arranging childcare with a friend. Although all of our coaches are DBS checked and highly trained they cannot be expected to care for a specific child while training a group. Social media Social media is fun and we are keen for people to share their experiences of rugby with their friends. However we ask that no one takes photos of children playing rugby and post them to social media without the express permission of their parent or carer. Dogs For the safety of all players, Leighton Buzzard RFC have a rule that means NO DOGS (except guide dogs) are allowed within the grounds of Wrights Meadow. The rule exists because of the risks of potential infection (Leptospirosis) spread through dog urine to players of all ages, particularly amongst the children. Please respect this rule. Safeguarding officers We have two safeguarding officers at the club who are able to deal with any concerns you may have. Alternatively please speak to your coach. Details for the coaches and safeguarding officers can be found on www.buzzardrugby.co.uk/teams/minisandjuniorcoaches Coaches All coaches are DBS checked and cleared. Our coaches undertake training throughout their time at the club to ensure they are fully trained in the techniques they are delivering. SEN, Medical Needs and Looked After Children We ask that you put these details on the registration form but cannot ensure the information provided will reach your coach immediately. Therefore please take time to let the coaches know any information that may affect the child while they are being coached.

Rugby Core Values Rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship underpin the game and define England Rugby.
Teamwork Teamwork is essential to our sport. We welcome all new team members and include all because working as a team enriches our lives. We play selflessly: working for the team, not for ourselves alone, both on and off the field. We take pride in our team, rely on one another and understand that each player has a part to play. We speak out if our team or sport is threatened by inappropriate words or actions. Respect Mutual respect forms the basis of our sport. We hold in high esteem our sport, its values and traditions and earn the respect of others in the way we behave. We respect our match officials and accept their decisions. We respect opposition players and supporters. We value our coaches and those who run our clubs and treat clubhouses with consideration. Enjoyment Enjoyment is the reason we play and support rugby union. We encourage players to enjoy training and playing. We use our sport to adopt a healthy lifestyle and build life skills. We safeguard our young players and help them have fun. We enjoy being part of a team and part of the rugby family. Discipline Strong discipline underpins our sport. We ensure that our sport is one of controlled physical endeavour and that we are honest and fair. We obey the laws of the game which ensure an inclusive and exciting global sport. We support our disciplinary system, which protects our sport and upholds its values. Sportsmanship Sportsmanship is the foundation upon which rugby union is built. We uphold the rugby tradition of camaraderie with teammates and opposition. We observe fair play both on and off the pitch and are generous in victory and dignified in defeat. We play to win but not at all costs and recognise both endeavour and achievement. We ensure that the wellbeing and development of individual players is central to all rugby activity.

Volunteering Successful rugby clubs like Leighton Buzzard are more than just winning teams on the pitch. Players and coaches are vitally important, and so are the many other dedicated volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to help the club function. You don’t have to be a rugby expert to get involved. Whether you’re a current player, someone who has hung up their boots or a person who has never picked up the oval ball, you could be a valued rugby volunteer at the club. The club is always looking to increase its pool of volunteers; whether that is on a more enduring basis, or a more ad hoc when required occasional basis. If you feel you could contribute to the running and administration of the club, or have more practical hands on skills that the club could use then please speak with the club’s Volunteer Coordinator, or any other member of the committee.
