For the Fall/Winter 2017 season we built upon what we started in Spring/Summer. We sought out new inspiration, we carefully crafted each garment and worked closely with our partners to push our product further. The following illustrates each step of the process from conception to production.

Our t-shirts are built on the foundation of premium materials, superior craftsmanship and considered design.

This season we committed to offering 100% of our t-shirts preshrunk. Preshrunk means, what you see is what you get‌ there are no surprises.

Keeping with the tradition of Burton product, our t-shirts are built custom from the ground up. Everything about them is unique to Burton.

Our Fall/Winter 2017 line focuses on the details. Each garment is passionately crafted to have a unique and highly considered look and feel. We systematically broke down the line to give each style an elevated and examined point of view . We’ve continued to dissect the offering into three distinct categories: Basic, Specialty and Premium - a strategic yet simple way to view the line. Within these groups we’ve incorporated a variety of premium materials, dye techniques, wash stories and elevated details that speak to our Burton lifestyle, while at the same time setting a new standard for quality.

• Our selection of Brand tees represents the bulk of our corporate marks • Logos are printed using watersol or tinted discharge inks for a super soft and minimal hand feel • All styles are offered in our new lightweight fabric and have a branded woven label stitched into the hem • Offered in our signature classic and slim fits

• Our Specialty category encompasses our seasonally specific take on progressive and compelling graphics, dyes and washes • Tonal tie dye and spiral dye gives an elevated feel-good vibe and our hard washed carded cotton adds a subtle washed and worn vintage feel • Our Specialty offering includes lightweight, mid-weight, and our mid-weight open ended cotton • The Sustainability story got a complete material overhaul - Peruvian Organic cotton - some of the best in the world • For this seasons artist series we partnered with counter-culture photographer Roberta Price getting real hazy in the New Mexico desert. A perfect compliment to our organic collection • Offered in our signature classic and slim fit

•Each direction of this season’s Premium offering is highly considered and detailed from stitch to finish - representing a superior quality, high end product •Crafted and engineered with interesting dye techniques and wash stories as well as unique trims to give each garment an elevated look and feel. • Graphics are minimal and downplayed allowing the fabric, washes and trims to tell the story come in three flavors: our over dyed slub, sand washed carded cotton and Dri Release Active Wool.

Our signature Classic fit offers a more generous, comfortable fit.

Our signature Slim Fit has a bit of a longer tailored look.

This season we worked hand in hand with our factory to push their capabilities and expand our own understanding of the print process. The result was a wide variety of techniques from the simple yet timeless brand marks all the way to felt appliquĂŠ into the Premium program. Below are highlights of the techniques we used and their desired effect.

WATERSOL PRINT: Used when printing darker colored graphics on light fabric, the result is a super soft print with no hand feel

DISCHARGE: Removes pigment from dark fabrics, leaving vibrant image with no hand feel

SOFT HAND PLASTISOL: Prints on top of fabric and has minimal hand feel for a lived in vintage vibe

TINTED DISCHARGE: Removes pigment from dark fabrics and replaces it with color to create graphics with no hand feel without sacrificing saturated color

DYE GAIN/ DYE RESIST: The garment is printed with a special transparent additive that either absorbs or repels dye during the over dye process.

CHAIN STITCH EMBROIDERY: Our super soft 100% cotton chain stitch embroidery is applied after the garment is constructed.

We started with undyed fabric, thread and woven labels and screenprinted the graphic with an ink that either absorbed or rejected the ink. Once each t-shirt was fully constructed we over dyed each one to get a desaturated color effect. The fabric, thread, woven labels and screenprint each take the dye differently giving a tonal yet totally unique and individual look.

Our Active Tees share the same fabric quality as our Baselayer - Dry Release Wool. To elevate the Brush Camo print we printed it on the back of the fabric giving a naturally distressed and unique look. We further elevated this soft and technical fabric with considered stitching, branding and trims.

We are committed to fit and all our t-shirts are preshrunk and custom washed.

All fabrics used for Burton’s tees are Fabric is dried, layed flat and allowed to relax pre-washed. The material is cut in 3 meter before cutting, thereby controlling shrinkage. panels and washed with our garment wash process to preshrink the fabric.

In addition to the pre-washing of fabric panels, our Brand and Specialty Tees undergo a silicone softener wash at the garment level. Our washed and worn tees are instead finished with a hard wash to achieve a dry vintage handfeel. Our Premium styles are overdyed in garment form and given a silicone wash for a soft hand.

Washes at both the fabric level and the garment level help achieve the softest hand feel and close the loop in our commitment to the perfect fit.

For the Fall/Winter 2017 season we’ve continued to work closly with our manufacturing and supply chain. Production continues in Peru; known as one of the premier regions in the world for growing and processing cotton.

Peru has a rich and longstanding textile tradition, going back over 5,000 years and Peruvian cotton is ranked among the finest and best quality in the world.

Our Sustainability platform is also fully supported in Peru as they were pioneers in the use of organic cotton and are one of the largest suppliers of organic cotton in the world.

Our manufacturing partner in Peru operates a fully vertical supply chain. They oversee everything...soup to nuts...from the cotton being grown on the farm to the finished goods coming off the line.

To us, a vertical supply chain simply means MAKING BETTER PRODUCT.

It also gives us have better visibility and transparency into the quality of materials, development and most importantly the finished product.
