President - Millennium Toastmasters 1st Club in Dist. 20 to achive President Distinguished Status within 4 months Email:sujith.vijayamohan@gmail.com

Dear Millennium Family, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! BE PROUD!! Our Club, MILLENNIUM Toastmasters has set a new record in Division H – First Club in our District 20 to achieve the prestigious PRESIDENT DISTINGUISHED CLUB Status by securing 9/10 points within a short span of 4 Months.” Imagine, you have budget in your office and you achieved that well in advance. What will be the reaction from Management? A grand party? A certificate of appreciation? And finally a REVISION in budget, yes an increased figure to achieve. Plan, Initiate, Action, Repeat…Millennium is also no different. We plan it, We Initiate it, We achieve it and We go for another one. This mantra has made Millennium Toastmasters Club achieve many laurels throughout this year. We started in style in the first quarter with the LGM Certificate by becoming the first club in entire district to process the April 2011 renewal, the same way we were the first one to achieve PRESIDENT DISTINGUISHED STATUS in the entire district, that too within a short time span of 4 months. Thus we acquired “OUTSTANDING ACHIEVER” Award for achieving 10 DCP points before April 15, 2012. isn’t it exciting? Millennium Toastmasters is known among the toastmastering community in Abu Dhabi as the trend setter! We have innovation, variety and creativity in our Meetings. We coax and inspire our members to achieve their educational goals. They say, Toastmastering is all about communication and leadership, but we say Toastmastering is more than communication and leadership. It is all about encouragement and giving back to society. Millennium never miss to appreciate Toastmasters achievements. It’s not only limited to our family, but to all fellow Toastmasters. The way Millennium appreciates member in Area and Division is an evident example for encouraging members. Giving back to society: - I would say that we Millennium Toastmasters have done this with a difference to make a difference in someone’s live. Out of our 10 years journey, a remarkable and noble achievement. We were able to sponsor a child’s education for 1 years. Waoh! Something which all club should do. Thus the quest for our communication and leadership quality has changed a little girl’s life and that of a society!! Lets think out of box and prove that Toastmastering is more than communication and Leadership – It’s a LIFE ALTERING experience. We planned it and achieved all these. The journey doesnt ends there. Other plan is under process.. Lets us join minds to continue our legacy!! Let’s be dIfFeReNt PLAN, INITIATE, ACTION, REPEAT Best regards, CC ALB Sujith Vijayamohan

“One ship sails East, And another West, By the self-same winds that blow, 'Tis the set of the sails And not the gales, That tells the way we go” Ella Wheeler Wilcox I consider myself extremely fortunate and honoured to be the VP Education at the time of our historic achievement of reaching the Presidents Distinguished Club Status within the first 4 months of the TME year and that to as the first club in the entire district to do so. Looking back, it was an amazing journey filled with a lot of learning along the way. A great example of what a group of dedicated and committed individuals can achieve when steered by a leadership with a vision. I still remember the day we had our club officer’s elections this year. Even before congratulating me on being elected as the VPE, the first words our new President said were “Last year, we became Presidents Distinguished Club with 9/10 DCP points. This year it can be nothing short of a perfect 10/10”. The goal was defined and the direction was set in the first few minutes of the birth of the new team. That night I sat at my laptop reviewing the Communication and Leadership progress of the club members and deciding on a plan of action for the 10 DCP points. The goal was not at all difficult and we could reach it comfortably, as we had enough members at various stages of their CC and Advanced projects. A few members were selected as targets and a plan was set based on the number of meetings in the year. Extremely satisfied with my effort and proud of the plan, I sent it across to the President and went to sleep. The next day, I got an email from him with a list of TME year awards that we should aim for. This basically required the various DCP points to be achieved in a shorter span of time than I had planned. This is when I got a taste of what true leadership is all about. It is not about just setting goals but reviewing and resetting them when the initial goal seems comfortable. In short it is about getting out of the comfort zone and being uncomfortable – and that is what makes us grow. I reviewed the plan and created a new one. The target speakers were required to do their projects more frequently than the initial plan sent to them. All speakers were extremely cooperative and willingly agreed to it. Around 2 months into the year, everything was going as planned and in fact we were getting a bit ‘comfortable’ with it. That is when the President came up with a new Goal – 9 out of 10 points in the first 4 months!!!. It sounded crazy at first. Everything was going fine. Why rattle the ship when everything is going smooth? But we also knew, this was a chance to make history. We spoke to the target speakers. They were charged up and fully geared for it and we set a new plan. The main problem was that we did not have enough speaking slots in our club. We sought the help of other clubs around and they were more than willing to help. There were situations when the President would drive a group of speakers to attend the meeting of another club and deliver their speeches there. All were charged up and geared to achieve the dream. As they say “When the dream is big enough, the facts don’t matter” Working hand in hand, supporting each other, closing our ears tightly against any criticisms and negative remarks, the Millennium club reached the goal - 9 out of 10 points in the first 4 months!!!. We sat there proudly in the meeting hall as the president announced our historic achievement. I breathed a sigh of relief – but that relief was only to be for a short while. He concluded the announcement saying – “We have just started our journey, now our next goal is .........................”. That is what true leadership is about. It is about always being “Uncomfortable”

Humoroids Advanced Toastmaster Club Sponsored by Millennium Chapter On 18 September 2010, a group of toastmasters got together at ISC, Abu Dhabi. The purpose was to plot against a silent killer who had been ravaging through the lives of toastmasters and ofcourse people in general; the killer named stress. The plan was to dismember this killer at a slow enjoyable pace. Thus was born the ultimate solution called Humoroids. Humoroids became the first advanced toastmaster club in Division H which promised the toastmastering community, meetings flavored with humor and fun. The club decided to have meetings at locations where other toastmaster clubs had their meeting, thus spreading the purpose of the Humoroids.

Since the inception of humoroids, the club had monthly meetings where members brought in a slew of fresh ideas and energy. The "Moustache Poetique" hosted by Basharia toastmasters was a different meeting where every one came sporting a mouche. "I am the one" hosted by ISC toastmasters celebrated the beauty of small things, ranging from a zipper to a dew drop. The newly formed Our toastmasters hosted the insanely funny "Poets' parley" which brought out the budding poet in toastmasters. Humoroids went to Mussafa to join Velosi toastmasters and enjoyed "Lights, camera, action" where the Hollywood met the Bollywood in a starlit celebrity night.

The planning is underway to serve the toastmasters in the coming days, in a mutitude of ways, each one different, entertaining and enriching. The Area Governor of Area 23, TM Sunil Kottarathil has been a pillar of support for the club from its pre-birth stages until now. Under his guidance, the membership base of the club has been growing. Members of atleast 10 clubs are now a part of the Humoroids brigade. The best, we know, is yet to come! - ACS, ALB Devlal Sahadevan

MY JOURNEY BEING PART OF S8

(STANDING FROM LEFT TO RIGHT)

Yes, I can do it Though I joined Toastmasters about two and half years back, I never thought that I could complete my CC projects. I always believed that it is something beyond my capacity and I did only four projects in the first two years. But the events after mid 2011, proved that I was wrong. When our club President TM Sujith Vijayamohan and VP Education TM Roshan Rajan gave me an action plan for completing my remaining 6 projects in 4 months and asked if I agree with this action plan, though with little resistance, I said yes. For me completing six projects in 4 months was a big problem. But with the support of my fellow toastmasters, in particular the Club President, VP Education and my mentor TM Devlal Sahadevan, I completed the projects as per the action plan. This strengthen my self confidence and my belief that if we set a goal, with team work and hard work, we can achieve it and above all I learnt a lesson that….yes, I can do it. TM Prasanna Kumar The journey with toastmasers at the Millennium club was always a joy ride that enriched my life in profound ways. The positive changes it brought to my life are many. Being a teacher by profession, I found the toastmaster experinece a valuable tool that helped me improve my skills and do better at work. The reading and research I did for my advanced projects at the club gave me fresh insights into areas that I had not ventured into before. Learning, indeed became enjoyable being a toastmaster and Millennium proved to be the best forum to acheive that. TM Devlal Sahadevan “My journey of completing ACS (especially the last 5 projects was exciting). With the additional efforts and encouragement of our dear President, TM Sujith I was ready to do my projects and got slots in other clubs to do my speeches. Since it was a new venue for me every time I had to do really a good preparation to complete my speech in a convincing way. By doing so, I got immense experience and confidence as a speaker as I was facing new audience every time. The reward I personally got after completing ACS was the rich experience, which has definitely enriched my life. I learned to be more poised and composed in a given situation and since I was doing back to back projects there was a vast boost in my own self confidence. The most important thing was how my club felicitated the S8 members. I was so much humbled when I saw the unique way in which S8 members were honoured. The celebration on that day itself was an extravaganza event. Which I am sure brought all members more closer to their next family which is Millennium family. The effort Millennium core members and President, VPE had put to felicitate S8 members was commendable and there is no words to thank them any more. The occasion was a huge ceremony which was nothing less than a Indian wedding ceremony were all S8 members must have felt like a bride and a groom on their weeding day” TM SHIVPRASAD GOWDA I think joining the Millennium Toastmasters is one of the best decisions taken in my life. Personally I enjoy being around with my friends and having a good time. I joined Millennium in 2008 truly for the same wonderful reason, FRIENDS. The camaderie and the warmth of every member in the club is what attracted me to this club. Moments spend in any toastmaster meeting to me is very enjoyable. Public speaking is an art, and it is wonderful to be a toastmaster to practice, fail and yet be encouraged to not give up on polishing your public speaking skills. The mentoring, feedbacks, suggestions and educational sessions during our club meetings have inspired and encouraged me to complete the ten project of Competent Communicator manual. It was difficult but a learning experience for me. I thank and owe this BIG achievement to all the members of the Millennium chapter for their sincere guidance and valuable suggestions. In the society where we live today, communication is a vital element to survive and work together. To achieve a competent communicator award, you may need to do ten speeches but with every project in that manual gives you a new insight into different aspect and ways to get your points across. Being a part of toastmasters have also helped me to get along with a group of people better and face challenges with more confidence. On business front, I can understand and evaluate my employees better, can communicate to them more effectively and even take clear decisions that make the running of my organization smoother. Being toastmasters have added lot of color to my life and I wish to deliver more speeches and continue my toastmastering to help myself better. MTM AMBIKA RAJAGOPALAN

Millennium Toastmaster Where leaders are made

I havn’t been to the Oscars or the Golden globes but the style, poise and atmosphere how the Millennium celebrations meeting honored the S8 members, made feel like a true star that night. Achieving the Competent Leadership award was a learning experience for not a born leader like me and being a part of this club filled with leaders from all walks of life; have inspired, encouraged and helped me learn a lot of leadership lessons. The members and their positive and friendly suggestions have helped me to evaluate and make myself a better person. I believe being a leader comes with lot of responsibility and integration of the outward actions and inner values. Sometimes it is difficult to take that initiative and be that leader. One of the best lessons that I learned from the club is “You don’t have to see the whole staircase; you just need to take the first step”. A lot of instances in my life as a student and the little work experience I have, has taught me that it is about taking that first step to do what you want to do which will definitely take you places and realize your dream. Working out on Competent leadership manual was to me, inspiring myself to learn from my own shortcomings while doing roles and taking up duties as a part of the club. My past few years of toastmastering was a self-discovery journey and it has made me realize a lot of my potential and have inspired me to do a lot of things that I never thought I can do and to motivate others. If today I can take all the things positively, express my views and communicate my ideas assertively with confidence, It is a BIG THANK YOU to the Toastmasters movement as a whole; Where Leaders are made and the Millennium Toastmasters for giving me the opportunity to develop. MTM ATHIRA RAJAGOPALAN How honoured one would be when he is a member of a team which achieves a great milestone, that too, with a record. Same was the case with me , when I was honoured by Millennium Toastmasters club as the S8 member for having completed my competent leader projects and contributing towards the presidents distinguished club award in the record time .I dedicate this achievement to each member of Millennium. It was by the encouragement from our President ,VPE and our Senior members that I could achieve this milestone. I remember the day I joined Millennium, with a lot of reluctance and doubt in my mind, if I could become a good communicator or leader as advised by my fellow toastmasters. But from the first meeting as a member of the club I realised that nothing is impossible in Millennium, with the guidance from a team of experienced speakers and leaders in the club who worked hand in hand to mentor the new members and encourage each one to achieve their objectives ,thereby achieving the goal of the club. After a few meetings I realised the change in myself not only in my professional life but also in my personal life. I was a bit reserved in nature, I did not speak or interact much during official meetings or social gatherings, I was always a good listener. But today I can proudly say that after joining Toastmasters, I actively take part in meetings and discussions. Volunteers to organise functions and has learnt to more effectively function as a team, by the experience achieved from my club and the toastmasters forum. This is just a start of the journey for myself and Millennium and am pretty confident that Millennium will achieve much more with the ever active leadership of the office members , guidance from the seasoned members and the teamwork from each of our members. Millennium Toastmasters- Others Envy, our pride. TM SANTOSH BHASKARAN Competent Communicator (A Milestone Reached) Beginning from the “Ice Breaker” to the “Inspire your Audience” , it is a ‘ten stations’ journey, which has added a lot of value to my communication skills. As gold is purified by fire, my communication skills were polished, nourished, and so to say “purified”, stage by stage on this journey.‘Ice Breaker’ brought fourth some of the childhood memories, which had been cherished for long. ‘Organize Your Speech’ gave insights in to the way the “flow” is to be maintained. ‘Get to the point’ helped making the speech apt and focused. “How to Say it” etched in my mind the principle that I need to be precise in what I say, so that the message is loud and clear to the audience. ‘Your Body Speaks’, proved that getting mind, body and soul in to the delivery of the speech was vital. “Vocal Variety” added another dimension into the use of volume, pitch, rate in order to infuse quality to reflect, add meaning and interest to the message. “Research Your Topic” helped digging out facts and figures, in support of the message that was conveyed. “Getting Comfortable with Visual Aids” fine tuned the skills of making a visual presentation, backed up by the verbal message. “Persuade with Power” brought out the persuasive skills, that are necessary to make the audience, give a confirmative nod to my view point. “Inspire Your Audience”, gave an opportunity to dramatize the speech content so as to make the audience, sit up and listen. The “Positive Strokes” from the fellow members, the “constructive criticism” in the form of “Speech evaluations” by seasoned Toast Masters, kept me motivated, focused and in high spirits. Professional guidance from the Mentor, his valuable insights held me on track from the beginning of the race to the finishing line. A tremendous journey indeed, which has been compelling and fulfilling. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. TM WILSON PINTO
