OFFICE DESIGN

THE CATALYST

LIBRARY DESIGN SERVE AS CATALYST FOR SOCIAL INTERACTIONS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY SPACES DEFINED BY LINES OF GREEN. LIGHT AS FINISHES TO THE BUILDING TO EMBRACE THE BEAUTY OF THE CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS ITSELF.

THE CATALYST CONCEPT

TO BREAK AWAY FROM CONVENTIONAL LIBRARY WHICH READING ARE CONFINED IN AN ENCOLOSED SPACE, HUMAN INTERATIONS ARE LOW. THIS LIBRARY INTENT TO EXPERIMENT TRANSPARENCY OF HUMAN ACTIVITY INDOR AND OUTDOOR ACTING AS A CATALYST FOR SOCIAL INTERACTIONS.

TO EXPERIENCE TIME IS TO EXPERIENCE SPACE- STEVEN HOLL

INTERTWINING ARCHITECTURE COMES TO A CONCEPT OF RADICAL PHENOMENOLOGICAL THINKING GROUNDED IN OUR EXPERIENCE OF ELEMENTS AND TIME. IT IS TO BELIEVE THAT ARCHITECTURE HAS THE ABILITY TO ELEVATE THE EXPERIENCE OF DAILY LIVES THROUGH A VARIETY OF PHENOMENON IN A SPECIFIC OF SITE CONDITION, PROGRAMS AND ARCHITECTURE. USER ARE ABLE TO HAVE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE PLAY OF INTERLACING WITH FORM, SPACE AND LIGHT. IDEA DRIVE ARCHITECTURE FORWARD WITH THE SUPPORT OF DESIGN, STRUCTURE MATERIAL, SPACE, COLOUR, LIGHT AND SHADOW INTERTWINE IN THE ENVELOPE OF ARCHITECTURE. SMELL AND SOUND DOWN TO THE CHOICE OF MATERIALS HAD HIGH SENSITIVITY IN GUIDING OR WRAPPED IN ARCHITECTURE THROUGH OUR DAILY LIVES.

LITERATURE REVIEW ARCHITECTURAL LITERATURE REVIEW OF STEVEN HOLL'S "INTERTWINING"

ARCHITECTURE TODAY HAS THE POWER TO CREATE BOTH ARTISTIC AND HUMANISTIC WHERE INTERTWINES WITH OUR INNER AND OUTER FEELINGS FROM THE LIGHT CASTING ONTO OUR SKIN TO THE EXPERIENCE WE HAD FELT WHEN WE PASSES THROUGH ONE SPACE TO ANOTHER. I STRONGLY AGREE WITH STEVEN HOLL'S PERCEPTION THAT ARCHITECTS IN THIS GENERATION HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY TO CLARIFY THE PURPOSE OF THE DESIGN AS TECHNOLOGIES TODAY ENABLES PEOPLE TO PRODUCE SURREAL IMAGERY IGNORING THE SPECIFICITIES OF LOCAL CULTURE AND ELEMENTS. SUCH DETACHMENT OF ARCHITECTURE FROM NATURAL PHENOMENON COULD LEAD TO CHAOTIC CHANGES TO A PLACE OR EVEN A COUNTRY. I BELIEVE THAT ARCHITECTURE SHOULD NOT BE OVERWHELMED BY THE TECHNOLOGIES, BUT SEEKING BACK TO ITS ROOTS, SEEKING THE TRUE VALUE OF WHAT ARCHITECTURE CAN BRING TO HUMAN VALUES. STEVEN HOLL ALSO STATES THAT IN FUTURE OF HUMANISM, ARCHITECTURE COULD BE MORE FLEXIBLE IN TERMS OF THE UNKNOWN SITUATION IN THE CONTEXT OF SITE. TECHNOLOGIES CAN COME INTO PLAY WHERE TECHNOLOGIES CAN BECOME TOOLS TO ASSIST IN CONCERN OF BIOLOGICAL, SOCIAL AND ECOLOGICAL ISSUES. TECHNOLOGIES IN THIS CONTEXT SHOULD INTERTWINE WITH ARCHITECTURE IN DEVELOPING A HOLISTIC SOLUTION TO LIVING SPACES. LIGHT PLAYS A VITAL PART IN BRINGING OUT THE ESSENTIAL OF ELEMENTS LIKE MATERIALS, FORMS AND SPACE. LIGHT PLAY IS ESSENTIAL IN CREATING DEPTH OF EACH ELEMENT AS LIGHT INTERTWINES WITH DIFFERENT ELEMENTS IN CREATING DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE TO THE USERS AT A SPECIFIC SITE, TIME AND DATE. WE AS DESIGNER HAVE TO DESIGN UNIVERSALLY IN SPECIFIC. A THOROUGH UNDERSTANDING OF EACH CONTEXT AND EACH UNDERSTANDING AS HARMONIOUS INTERTWINING OF ARCHITECTURE CAN OCCUR. AS A DESIGNER, THE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE FOUNDATION OF EACH NATURAL AND MADE ELEMENT HAS TO BE EXCEPTIONAL. THE WORK PIECE OF HAGIA SOPHIA IS A GREAT EXAMPLE WHERE THE LIGHT OF ISTANBUL PENETRATES AND ROTATES SCULPTED SUNLIGHT ANIMATING THE PASSING OF TIME. LIGHT IS ESSENTIAL IN INTERTWINING WITH OTHER ELEMENTS TO TELL A STORY AND TO CREATE A SOUL TO ARCHITECTURE. ARCHITECTURE HAS A SOUL AND IT SHOULD HAVE INTIMATE CONTACT WITH US, TEXTURES AND THE SURROUNDING CONTEXT. OVERLAPPING OF CONTEXT IS CRUCIAL TO CREATE SPACES THAT INTERTWINE WITH LIGHT, COLOUR, GEOMETRY AND MATERIAL. EACH ELEMENTS SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY STUDIED AND THEN MERGING ESSENCE CREATING AN INTERTWINED ARCHITECTURE. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING TOWARDS INTERTWINING, BY STEVEN HOLL IN RELATION TO THE SITE IN BROGA. I HAVE REALISED THAT EVEN IN LOCATION OF DIFFERENT CONTEXT; ONE PASSING THROUGH THE CONCRETE JUNGLES AND ON ANOTHER THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF HOW THE BODY ADVANCES, OPENING AND CLOSING OF VISTAS, THE SHIFTING MOVEMENT BETWEEN NEAR AND FAR IS THE SAME BUT THE CONTEXT, THE MATERIALS CHANGES THE EXPERIENCE OF ONE INDIVIDUAL. DIFFERENT OF TIME, LOCATION, DATE WILL PORTRAY DIFFERENT INTENSITY OF SHADOWS, COLOURS, AND LINE OF SIGHTS THAT DIFFERS FROM DEPTH OF DAYTIME AND NIGH TIME SPATIALITY. IN SHORT, THE CHANGES OF BODY MOVEMENT THROUGH SPACE, THE SIGHT DOES NOT ONLY BEEN INFLUENCED BY THE PLANNING OF THE ARCHITECTS BUT ALSO INTERTWINE WITH THE LOCAL CONTEXT OF THE SITE. WE SHOULD NOT BE SPEAKING OF CREATING A TIMELESS ARCHITECTURE AS EVERYTHING COMES TO AN END. ARCHITECTURE CAN NEVER BE TIMELESS AS TIME MOVES ON THINGS CHANGES, POPULATION CHANGES, ARCHITECTURE SHOULD BE ADAPTIVE IF NOT CONSTRUCTIVE; CONSTRUCTIVE AS IN PROVIDING CONSTRUCTIVE FRAMEWORK FOR SOLUTION TO ENCOUNTER FUTURE ISSUES. ARCHITECTURE SHOULD NOT BE TIMELESS BUT DURATION, DURATION WHERE ARCHITECTURE COULD PROVIDE COMFORT AND FRAMEWORK FOR A BETTER SOLUTION TOWARDS SOCIAL AND ECOLOGICAL CONTEXT FOR THE FUTURE. ARCHITECTURE TRANSCENDS GEOMETRY. ARCHITECTURE IS A NETWORK BETWEEN CONCEPTS AND FORMS WHERE ARCHITECTURE INTERTWINES WITH ITS SITE FORCES, PROGRAMS AND PHENOMENA. TO FORM A CONCEPT, ONE MUST FIRST INQUIRE, INQUIRE THE LIMITATION, INTERPRET ITS STRENGTH AND WEAKNESS UNDERSTANDS EACH AND EVERYTHING OF THE CONTEXT OPEN TO LIMITLESS OF INSPIRATION NOT ONLY BY THE MICRO CONTEXT. IN CHALLENGE OF MODERN DAYS INDUSTRIALISATION, ARCHITECTURE TENDS TO MOVE TOWARDS SYNTHETIC FABRICATION WHERE WOODEN CASEMENT WINDOWS ARE DELIVERED WITH WEATHERPROOFED PLASTICS AND STEELS ARE COATED WITH SYNTHETIC OUTER FINISH. THE ESSENCE OR INDIVIDUALITY OF EACH ELEMENT HAD BEEN REPLACED WITH SYNTHETIC AESTHETIC. MATERIALS SHOULD BE USED AS IT IS, A BRICK CAN NEVER FUNCTION LIKE STEEL, VICE VERSA. MATERIALS CAN BE ALTERED BUT SHALL NOT BE DIMINISHED OR EVEN ENHANCED ITS NATURAL PROPERTIES. AS A DESIGNER, I BELIEVE EXPLORATION AND EXPERIMENTAL IS ESSENTIAL IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE A BREAKTHROUGH. WE HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY TO INVENT AND ATTEMPT NEW PROGRAMS RATHER THAN TO SOLVE A GIVEN TASK. ARCHITECTURE MUST OPEN TO NEW VISTAS, NEW APPROACH, NEW CHALLENGE AND ASPIRATION TO CREATE JOY FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
