Washington Attorney Nominated for Chambers USA Award By Teresa Cajot Maureen E. Dwyer, a Director in the Washington DC office of Goulston & Storrs, has been named to the final short list of Chambers and Partners ‘’Women in Law Awards.’’ In association with Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, Chambers presents these awards, for the first time this year, in honor of exceptional females in the legal professional. The award recipients will be named at a ceremony on February 2 at The Plaza in New York. Individual winners will be selected through the Chambers USA 2012 research. Chambers has established itself as a trustworthy source for identifying leading attorneys and firms around the globe for more than 20 years now.

As a respected land use attorney, Dwyer was nominated in the category of Real Estate Lawyer of the Year. She specializes in the areas of zoning and municipal law and has worked with major universities as well as top real estate developers. Dwyer has served clients in the development of new corporate, retail, institutional and office facilities, as well as residential properties. She taken client matters before the DC Council, the DC Zoning Commission, the Board of Zoning Adjustment, the Historic Preservation Review Board, Mayors Agent for Historic Preservation, the Commission of Fine Arts, and other agencies concerned with land use issues. As a result of her work, Dwyer has been featured in Best Lawyers, USA America’s Leading Business Lawyers, Martindale Hubbell’s Top Women Lawyers of the Northeast, Washingtonian’s Best Real Estate Lawyers, and other leading legal directories. Prior to joining Goulston & Storrs, Dwyer was a partner in Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman’s real estate group. Before that, she was a shareholder at Wilkes Artis in Washington, DC. In the past she also served as an Adjunct Professor at American University, where she taught administrative and land use law.

Her professional and community involvement has included associations with the Federal City Council, the Greater Washington Board of Trade, the Urban Land Institute, the DC Chamber of Commerce, the DC Building Industry Association (DCBIA), and the Economic Club. She is also the former president and a current member of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) and a former chair of the Eugene and Agnes Meyer Foundation. She was previously the chair of the Salvation Army’s Advisory Board and serves as a current member. She is also active on the Girl Scout Council of DC. Dwyer is frequently called on to present at professional conferences on the topics of land use law, historic preservations, and the position of women in society.
