ow many times do we have heard “ we are doing things for the people”? Countless, don't we? And what about “working for the people”?, they cannot be counted. Service to the community, to the neighbourhood of this municipality, is something that is always more than clear and obvious among all those who aspire to have a position of representation in the local council. However, when these words come into practice, they sadly often seem not to be fulfilled. It cannot be understood how a person with a position of responsibility, whose main goal is locals' well-being, makes decisions that are sometimes very far from those original “good purposes”. And this is the matter we are going to talk about. To introduce, I will recall the fact that some few months ago, early in the year, a program of Onda Regional of Murcia, “El último peldaño”, was performed in Mazarrón. The program was very successful because in the Casa de Cultura's hall there was no room even for the tip of a needle, and there are photographs for you to check it out. This house, La Voz de Mazarrón, joined the broadcast of the program, very convinced and performed the broadcast in real time whereas the night session was being developed and which finished at wee hours because it was live. A great effort from everybody. Onda Regional provided the technical means and ran the phone line setting which was especially enabled for the occasion. In addition, the technical body of the regional radio station came here, not to mention the staff who regularly performs the radio program and who came in with an actor that appeared in specific moments over the program, interacting with the audience and playing the legendary Morato Arráez. The figure of this pirate is more than linked to Mazarrón and there is no point in explaining his role in the Bolnuevo's Miracle Legend. This leads me to the content of the program. Because that night, Mazarrón was the absolute protagonist of a radio broadcast in which some locals took part by telling personal experiences which fitted the topic of the radio space. All that to close an activity which, as it was being carried out, made us feel it transcended us. And there you have thousands podcasts downloaded from the program that night, not only form the Onda Regional website, but also from other Internet means such as Ivoox, YouTube, and so on and so forth. The broadcast had followers even from Finland and also it has an impact in the national media. That is, the program we supported from La Voz de Mazarrón was then continued in the popular TV program “Cuarto Milenio”, where almost half an hour was dedicated at prime time in the Sunday night, when millions viewers were following the broadcast that day. Let's remember that on Sunday night, the screen share of that TV program is about 17 per cent with an average of one million viewers and big peaks of followers. “Cuarto Milenio” hegemony in Sunday late night is absolute and doubles the viewers of the most watched programs that night. All those figures are real. And, as we have seen, the Onda Regional of Murcia program broadcast, where Mazarrón was the undeniable protagonist, had some benefits and spread that if it were wanted to be done in a different way, there would not have been enough money to buy that advertising. I will give you the figures again for you to understand, a TV commercial costs between 12 and 15 thousand euros at the slot when they were talking about Mazarrón. So, “El último peldaño” broadcast, which we pleasantly joined, with a ridicule cost for the achieved result, made the municipality have an advertising which rarely has had. The funny thing is that after the success, there were conversations with Onda Regional to make it again in summer, by providing it with a bigger entity and taking advantage of the amount of people who come to Puerto de Mazarrón during those days, it would become a tremendously attractive activity with big impact, to which celebrities in the mystery world would be invited and as we all know, would bring lots of people. La Voz de Mazarrón, the same as in January, was also involved in the project. However, the surprise has come when we have heard that the activity is not backed by the municipal authorities, it will not be done, and as explanations we only have gotten vague answers at the technical level and we are told something the like that there are many activities for the summer. Of course, imagine our surprise because it was a project which would have a big impact for Mazarrón and had the collaboration from many people. And as this is something that cannot be understood well, locals will have to be told how it is that they are working for them. Now that we had left quadripartite behind, everybody thought that arbitrary decisions had also disappeared, but we can see they haven't. For you to understand, an arbitrary decision is the one made even knowing that goes in detriment of the majority. The program is going to take place this Friday, 3rd June, at 11 pm, broadcast from the Lorca Castle. So, Lorca people are going to do what Mazarrón people haven't wanted to, why will it be? Curious, isn't it?

New technological platforms to ease residents participation

Recently, at the Mayors Meeting, in which the Mazarrón Mayoress, Alicia Jiménez, took part, the Community announced the creation of the Technological Platform for the Residents Participation which will allow to speed up the participative processes encouraged by local councils, as telematic public questions as reports from residents and results of team works deliberative sessions. This new computer tool will have a specific section for information from the local councils and their associations; informational and educational documents on participation methods, and a channel for Murcia people abroad. The Regional Minister of Presidency, Maria Dolores Pagán, explained the policies of the “Open Government” of the Regional Executive, “which are beyond the legal duties with a constant improvement process, because we have the will to take public information closer to residents”. “We want local councils and the Transparency Board to make institutions closer to people”, the Regional Minister pointed out, and she explained that the meeting that day had the goal to share the initiatives of the Open Government “because they are becoming a reference in the national scope”.
