Program Updates 2013/2014 Announcing the new Dean’s entrance scholarship! We are pleased to announce the new SBE Dean’s entrance scholarship for the 2014-2015 admissions cycle. A total of 8 scholarships will be awarded, one in each field of SBE’s PhD, MSc, and MABE programs. The $5,000 entrance scholarships will be awarded to outstanding incoming domestic and international students. We are currently accepting applications for all PhD and research-based master’s programs for the September 2014 intake. The early application deadline is January 15, 2014. We will continue to accept qualified applications after this date based on space availability of the program. To date, we have received hundreds of inquiries about our programs from potential applicants across the globe. This issue of the bulletin also shines a spotlight on the many accomplishments of our students. We hope that you will join us in celebrating their well-deserved success.

PROGRAM NEWS Please join us in congratulating Dr. Tony Tang, Coordinator of the MBA with CFA Study Option, in working hard and successfully obtaining CFA partner status for both our MBA/CFA and MFin programs. This is an excellent accomplishment, and Laurier’s programs will now be listed on the website of the CFA Institute.

LAURIER’S DECEMBER RESEARCHER Congratulations to Dave Whiteside, the winner of Laurier’s December researcher! He is currently completing his PhD (OB/HRM). His SSHRC-funded research focuses on identifying the factors that lead to unfair behaviour in the workplace. Specifically, his dissertation examines how and why ego depletion (i.e., the depletion of cognitive resources required for effective selfcontrol) can lead to managers treating others unfairly in organizations, even when they believe that they should be fair.

VISITING SCHOLARS Dr. Loretta Fung from National Tsing Hua University will be joining our School for two months commencing January 2014.
