The Gift That Keeps On Giving - Miniature Fairy Gardens

Lauren Kyes Writer at miniature gardening, writes on miniature houses and miniature plants.

I think we can all agree that the holiday season is full of magic and wonder. It is an occasion for families, friends, and gift giving. I love devoting some of my time towards planning fairy garden gifts, because I am able to personalize each miniature garden for the person that will be receiving the gift. Throughout this past year, I have shared sister fairies with my sisters, with my best friend planted miniature gardens in a vintage coffee can, and created Halloween fairy gardens with my equally Halloween obsessed aunt. Do we have the same opinion that when you find a unique and thoughtful gift, you want to share it with everyone?

My guilty pleasure is regularly checking the “what's new” section on miniature garden websites to see if something will inspire my next fairy garden or blog post. I also like to gift “grab bags” of fairies, gnomes, miniature accessories, and the latest collection of tiny fairy houses, to my friends who have already fallen in love with miniature gardening. Often, when planning gifts, I enjoy browsing online and looking through images of colorful miniature plants before I make a selection.

A good example of the “gift that keeps on giving involves my friend who now lives in Kentucky; because the weather there is consistently beautiful, she has the rare opportunity to miniature garden outdoors yearlong. Next to gardening and coffee, her favorite guilty pleasure is hosting outdoor bonfire parties. Therefore, when I think about gifting my friend something to help with her next miniature garden, I remember how I fell in love with the new solar panel doors that light up at night. They would be an entertaining way for her to enhance parties with outdoor miniature gardens that glow in the dark.

I was raised to always bring a hostess gift to whatever party I attend, and Thanksgiving will be another great way to spread the mini fairy garden joy. I have always been a fan of the littlest versions of fall gardening. During the Thanksgiving season, there are many miniature accessories on my favorite list – corn stalks, turkeys, pumpkins, scarecrows, fairy houses, and signs announcing the holiday. Some of my family members collect fairies for their garden, so I am always looking to see which fairies are new to the fall line. I also have fun selecting fairies that look like my parents, siblings, brother-in-laws and soon to be sister-in-law. This year I have noticed more male miniature gardening fairies, which instantly bring much realism and personality to the fairy gardens. In addition to planning gifts using the latest miniature accessories, I have started selecting the micro mini and tiny scale pieces.

I personally love to decorate tea cups as a quick and easy hostess gift. After selecting a favorite miniature plant, I add a few fairy accessories, and within a few minutes, the personalized tea cup gift is ready. This little gift can add a big impact to a tablescape. I have given these “gift gardens” for Halloween parties, Thanksgiving, and Christmas – my special fairy garden gift always has been met with much excitement, since the host or hostess appreciates to be receiving something handmade, unique, and thoughtful. When I am giving a gift, I always think about the person and the happiness it will bring them. Therefore, selecting accessories that match my friends’ personalities is the best part of giving a fairy garden as a token of my appreciation. I have gained much pleasure from giving these gifts, and it makes this joyous time of the year that much more fun!
