Where? Henbury is a suburb of Bristol, England, approximately 5 miles north west of the city centre. It was formerly a village in Gloucestershire and is now bordered by Westbury-on-Trym to the south; Brentry to the east and the Blaise Castle estate Blaise Hamlet and Lawrence Weston to the west. To the north lie the South Gloucestershire village of Hallen and the entertainment/ retail park Cribbs Causeway.
Prior to my visit to Henbury, I did a little research. I found Henbury to suffer with a bad reputation, with alot of the locals blaming it on the two big tower blocks and the people that occupied these buildings. Although they said Henbury did suffer from some trouble locals also seemed very proud of Henbury and said that it was a nice place to live. I was intrigued to find out more about these opposing ideas.
conclusion? Henbury was a very friendly place with many of the locals havng been there for a number of years. I could see where the trouble could/has arose but every place has its bad eggs and I think unfortunately this had been exposed in the media and Henbury had gained a bad repuation. I wanted to change this reputation and represent Henbury in a no biased way. Henbury in black and white.
I tried to make my publication simple to understand so my findings would be understood easily. I also wanted my design to be fun and didn’t want it to come across as intimidating either. this is reflected with typeface choice and editing of the photos I took there. I chose to get my poster printed on blue paper and I think this would have been more sucessful if I had paid for a higher quality print. When I took the poster back into the community I got great feedback and people were pleased that Henbury had been shown in black and white finally.
