Courses for Professionals - 2011/12 All our courses are delivered by The Laura Centre, which is a nationally recognised centre of excellence in the field of bereavement counselling and therapeutic care. Our training reflects the nature of our work and is delivered by trainers who are themselves professional counsellors and therapists with many years of experience which, we believe, enhances theoretical input and understanding. We offer a wide range of counselling and support services for individuals and families; we also offer clinical supervision and consultancy to professionals in related fields.

Supporting Bereaved Children We run three, linked, one-day courses for anyone working with children and young people.

Day 1 Understanding the Needs of Bereaved Children. Dates: 12th Oct 2011, 25th Apr 2012 and 10th Oct 2012 at the Rothley Centre, LE7 7PR

These three courses are aimed at helping you: •

Address difficult and sensitive issues in a safe environment.

Formulate bereavement policies for your organisation.

Anticipate the grief caused by terminal and serious illness.

Understand cultural and family differences.

Understand behavioural issues in children and young people affected by loss.

NEW Day 4 and 5 Supporting Bereaved Children For people who have completed days 1, 2, & 3. These days include more experiential learning opportunities and include activities that can be used with children and young people individually or in groups. Dates: March 21st and 22nd, 2012 at Quorn Hall.

Working with Bereavement and Loss Within the Family This 6 day course is designed to enable participants to increase their understanding, knowledge and confidence in providing support to bereaved individuals and families. The course is led by experienced professional counsellors and psychotherapists with many years experience. It is taught within a respectful atmosphere of mutual learning covering theory and practice. Content includes an understanding of the differences and similarities in grief for children, adolescents, adults and couples. This will be the third year this course has run – previous participants have given overwhelmingly positive feedback with 90% rating it ‘excellent’. Previous students have included: head-teachers, teachers, learning support assistants, counsellors (adults and children), health care professionals and others in caring professions. The course is accredited by the University of Leicester, School of Education and students completing all the required elements are eligible to receive 20 credits.
