Walhalla AND SURROUNDS Located north of Traralgon and Moe, the unique township of Walhalla was once home to 3000 residents, 10 hotels, 7 churches, as well as schools and shops, all thanks to the large gold deposit within the mountain. Wander the towns many walks and learn about the ‘rich’ gold mining history. Climb on board the Walhalla Goldfields Railway which winds through Stringers Creek Gorge to Thomson Station. Delve deep into the mountain for a fascinating tour of the Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine, or take a ghost tour at night to discover a different aspect of Walhalla’s past.
