HOW TO SPEAK EASY

Becoming a succesful competitor in collegiate forensics takes talent, hard work, and sacrifice. In addition to these fundamentals many competiors have found little tricks to help them stay ahead of the competition. Here are a few that will have you performing like a pro in no time.

This one letter memorization strategy works like a charm. Write the first letter of each word in your speech on an index card. Then, try to “read” your speech by looking at the notecard. You will be surprised at your brain’s ability to recall the words from your speech.

Smooth page turns are key to having a clean performance. To increase your fluidity, try putting black paper clips at the bottom of each page in your performance book. This will give you something to grab onto, making it easier to turn each page.

The best way to critique your own performance is to watch yourself. Practice in front of a mirror, so you can see yourself from the audiences perspective. This will also help you make sure your body movements support your performance.

For the ladies, wearing pantihose will bring problems. To help prevent runs spray them down with hair spray before you put them on. If you get a run at a tournament put clear nailpolish over the run to keep it from getting bigger. 2

Long tournaments, in hot places will result in persperation. Put dryer sheets or pantiliner in the armpits of your suits to keep your suit fresh and dry.
