Growing up in a small Lithuanian village, I had to find ways to make myself busy. Drawing, Making, building and fixing things, were among my main activities. Later in life, I engaged in painting and photography. At the same time, I used to spend my summers working on construction sites, which was a valuable experience. I worked hard, however, by then I knew I want to associate my life with creativity. I was about to pursue my career in photography, but I wanted something more challenging, and keep the photography as my hobby. I guess my innate desire to make things, attraction to technology and experience on construction site, lead me to study architecture. I didn't know much about architecture, but when I started studying, I became in love with it. While it is just a beginning of my journey, Architecture is becoming my lifestyle, not the career.

01 THE NEW BEGINNING (IN PROGRESS) Project: Parasite Paradise Berlin, Germany BArch -Year 3 - Final Project 11.2017 - Present

Project Brief Choose one of the given sites in Berlin and by employing a certain methodology, propose a building/s that would manifest authenticity in form and spatial arrangement. The proposal must interact with the existing building, thus appearing as a ‘parasite’. Parasite, in this context, means a building being hosted by a site; temporary or permanently.

Personal Aspiration The aim is to propose the ideas about how refugees in Berlin could be integrated into society. Initial proposal is to enable refugees to create a vibrant self-sustained community on chosen site - Flak-towers in Humboldthain park. The process would involve several stages: First - to employ refugees into building process, train them how to build and enable them to self-build their homes/spaces. Second stage would propose to create a village, where refugees could live, as well as showcase their culture to a wide extent. The village would include places to live, places to showcase their traditional food, It would include art exhibitions, various workshops, as well as various gardens where they could grow their food. The community would make events that would invite Berliners and people from abroad to familiarise with cultures of middleeast These events would attempt to boost tolerance towards the refugees.

Further Aspirations Next stage will involve developing a system which would enable refugees to build their ‘city’. Upon the research about their needs, it is aspired to design several different modules that could be adopted by refugees and together with the proposed system, these modules could be combined, thus becoming a ‘city’.



Breaking The Order Diagram on the right criticizes current situation in the Tempelhof airport refugee camp (image below), where people live in inhumane conditions. Rigorously ordered square boxes accommodate 6 bunk beds per box, meaning that 12 people are sharing approximately 25 m2 space. Clearly the space lacks of privacy and diminishes the identity of its inhabitants. In order to regain the identity of current Tempelhof habitants, the diagram show the proposal to break this order and introduce the disorder in spatial arrangement. This proposal became a driving force in the next concept development stage.



Introducing Disorder Methodology By combining three main ideas: self-built community; authentic form and spatial arrangement; and breaking the rigorous order, the methodology employed in the process, speculates the idea of ‘growth’. As a result, unintentional and authentic spatial arrangement is created, as well as the disorder that criticizes current order in Tempelhof refugee camp.

Stage 1 Inspired by the project idea ‘Parasite Paradise’ the methodology involves speculating in a fictional sense: what if these refugee shelter boxes could grow as a parasite on the site. When these boxes grow and intersect, it results in disorder and authentic spatial arrangement.

Stage 2 Second stage is a step further in the idea of ‘growth’. It is a speculative exploration - in what different ways self-built community could spread on the site. This is not an attempt to predict how the community would spread in the real world, but rather an attempt to create the arrangement that is random and not imposed by the designer, thus spatially and formally illustrating the idea of self-built. The Animation (link on page 12) shows the different iterations of how the community could ‘grow’.

Art Installation Proposal


St Pancras

London, UK BArch -Year 3 - Short-term Project 10.2017 - 11.2017

The brief required to propose an art installation for the Euro-train arrivals area in Saint Pancras station. The installation had to respond to the current political issues, for example ‘Brexit’. The installation has two meanings: the main idea is the feeling of UNCERTAINTY, and the other is ALIENATION. The purpose of Uncertainty is to evoke the feeling that the shady presence of Brexit is evoking in European citizens living in Britain. It is a feeling of uncertainty and unknown; being uncertain about one’s future. Predetermined plans about education or work, are now at stake... This feeling is evoked, by having a structure that appears to be built in uncertain and chaotic manner, but the strongest stimuli is the interior of the installation - it completely contrasts the exterior - it is black, glossy, organic, random, undefined and almost purposeless. Chaotic structure attracts the attention of arrivals, showing the way to go, but not yet fully reveling what is inside. When entering and going down the escalator, interior starts moving: curvy modules stretches backwards and forwards in random pace and appearance creating the effect of ‘breathing’. Person becomes confused and concerned about what one sees - it makes one feel uncertain and only leaves questions... The concept of alienation is the critique on increased discrimination towards EU citizens (especially from eastern Europe) after the vote for Brexit. The structure is not welcomed, and does not belong in the context. It appears as if it might be from another planet... So as the Europeans are not welcome by the ones who discriminate - or alienate. From outside the ‘creature’ has rusty metal protective shield, but from inside it represents the living organism that moves...

03 THE THRESHOLD Project: 5D City Cells

Leicester, UK BArch - Year 2 - Final Project 01.2017 - 05.2017

’5D – stands for the fifth dimension, that is dark, hidden and unfamiliar’ – Emmanoil Zaroukas – Project Tutor. Therefore, project ’5D City Cells’ focused on creating living cells that would explore yet undiscovered spatial possibilities and would question accepted dogmas of living. The project explores how space could be inhabited differently, i.e. by accepting spatial affordances and performing new habits accordingly. The methods of creating spatial possibilities included the articulation of modular elements and the set of rules, proposed in order to manipulate the articulation. Therefore, the result of spatial articulation is not arbitrarily imposed by the creator, but rather is the consequence of the modular manipulation according to proposed rules. During the initial stage of the project and site analysis, was discovered that the site shares the quality of serving as a threshold; the threshold between new and old, between existing and non-existing built environment. Hence the idea of ‘Threshold was a driving force for the process of creating spatial possibilities. The project was exploring on how different combinations of modular elements create spaces and thresholds between different levels and volumes of spacious and tight spaces. This way unique spatial affordances are imposed and the occupants are enforced to find the way of utilizing them, thus inventing new ways of inhabiting the space. Hence proposed building, that sits on the threshold between new and old, existing and non-existing built environment becomes a threshold in itself – a threshold to the possible new way of living and inhabiting the space.




Vincent is a beginner circus performer. He recently moved to Leicester and engaged in acrobatics. When he was seeking for the place to stay, he found the top cell available at the threshold building. When he saw it, he straight away fell in love with the place. The cell is perfect for training, performing and living. Vincent uses spaces to exercise and try-out his newly learned tricks

Sintel comes from the quiet Village in Finland. She is a bit of an introvert and she likes to spend time alone reading books. She uses spatial affordances of the modular to create for herself small, private spots, where only she is allowed to access. She misses nature that she used to admire in Finland, Hence the red cell that has the views of the river and tress is a good catch and retreat from the city 25.

The Method Of Modular Articulation

The process began by selecting simple random pieces of laser fabricated MDF, building a three-dimensional object and then using the shape for making a singular modular element. The element is fabricated in larger quantity and used to make different structural iterations. One final structure is chosen for further study. The new object is created by adding vertical and horizontal planes and entirely removing the initial structure. Finally, the object is multiplied and merged into one large object, resulting in unintentional spatial articulation.

04 ORGANIC ALLOTMENTS AND NEW PUBLIC SQUARE Leicester, UK BArch - Year 2 - Term1 09.2016 - 12.2016

Organic Allotments The allotment design is driven based on the conclusion that was made during the analysis of the Market place. Due to lack of care and appearance of supermarkets, Market Place looses its popularity. This is especially an issue to a younger generation. Proposed design strives to sort out the issue and revive the Market Place. The allotments behind the Corn Exchange would employ horizontal, vertical and hydroponic gardening. Underfloor heating on the first level and available artificial lighting could create artificial exotic environment and enable the members to grow exotic vegetables and fruits. Locally produced organic vegetables and fruits would supplement the market, enrich the choice of available fresh products and therefore attract younger shoppers.

New Public Square Market Place used to be the main civic square in the city, where various events and fairs used to be held. It used to be open and spacious place. Since the permanent market was built in 1930s the place lost that spirit. As the market now became very important part of the city, with its own new spirit, would be irrational to remove it. Hence the idea of this design is to introduce new public square just behind The Corn Exchange and allotment gardens. Besides the square, the new coffee shop is also added to the place. Initially the coffee shop is designed for the members of gardeners club, also providing the only access to the allotments. However, during the day the coffee shop and the outdoor seating would be accessible to the public - potentially making the place more vibrant.

Personal Site Analysis Interpretation

The purpose of this video is to unveil Latin phrase ‘Genius Loci’ which means ‘Spirit of the place’ - the particular atmosphere that makes a certain place unique. The video shows 2 different sides of the market - during the day and the night. Day-time market is quite active and vibrant, but dark and cold when not in use.

Classic Car Psychotherapist


Leicester, UK BArch - Year 1 - Final Project 03.2016 - 06.2016

The Brief The brief required to create a terraced house between existing (on the right) and new buildings created by other students (on the left). The requirements were to design a house for a family of 4 who would work and live in the same house. The husband is a classic car restorer and the wife is psychotherapist. They have one small child and they all live together with grandma. Hence the spaces were arranged accordingly.

The garage was placed on the street side, because of the noise pollution and more convenient access for cars. The facade was cladded in corten steel - depicting the rustic feel of classic cars as well as existing surrounding buildings from Victorian era.



Psychotherapy Psychotherapy area was located at the back of the house above grandmas room. Both spaces are separated by a courtyard and has private entrance. The facade is cladded in travertine combined with the corten steel. Travertine has calm and inviting feeling, but corten steel is used here to create a contrast that prevents from homogeneous feeling.

Frameless glass balustrade sits 80mm deep in the rubber socket, inside 5mm thick pre-formed steel channel that is fixed with bolts to the main structure. Softwood plank is placed under the channel in order to reduce thermal bridging.

Steel plate, Pre-welded or bolted on-site. It extends 20mm outside the column, so that poured concrete fills in to the beam without leaking. Section is cut as if Door/Window would be open in order to show both parts of the Door/Window.

House For


Dance Student

Leicester, UK BArch - Year 1 - Term 2 01.2016 - 03.2016

The project focused on creating a house for a single student (dance student in this case). Spatial constrains were set by the brief. The house could be not be larger than three stories height and had to fit in 3m x 3m width virtual box - meaning that the widest part of the house can only be 3m x 3m. The house had to include kitchen, shower, space to practice and a place to sleep. Kitchen and shower was placed on the first floor. In order to play with form, first floor was elevated by 1.5m and area below was used for the storage, and services, so the footprint space was reduced to 2m x 3m. Middle floor was dedicated for practice therefore the space was maximized to 3m x 3m. Third floor (mezzanine) was again squeezed to its limits, leaving a space for a bed, small table and small balcony where the resident can have her morning coffee.





08 BICYCLE REPAIR SHOP Project: Trading Places Leicester, UK BArch - Year 1 - Term 1 11.2015 - 12.2015

The brief was to create a 10 square meters shop in the small and constrained site, the intention of the design was to elevate the structure from the ground level in order to allow the cars enter the back yard where they were parked. The materiality was driven from the present context of the site. Stack bond brickwork and steel is apparent on the site, hence the corten steel in stack bond pattern, as well as plain is proposed for cladding. The shape of the building developed out of the ergonomics required to move comfortably through the space. The shape reflects to its context too, the building wraps around the neighbouring buildings in, some what, parasitic way.







09 HOSTEL IN NORWAY Building Performance And Technology Trondheim, Norway BArch - Year 2 - Term 2 02.2017 - 04.2017

The Project focused on exploring Passive building design strategies including, construction strategies and spatial layout, as well as heating, cooling, ventilation, The goal was to achieve very low energy consumption throughout the year. The building passed various tests and simulations. Construction materials used achieved very low U-Values (W/m2-K): wall - 0.109; Roof - 0.082; Floor - 0.111. The goal was also to be eco-fiendly and sustainable, therefore the materials included mostly wood which could be sourced locally
