Juras strong early in Georgina By Daniel Perry October 25, 2010 Mayoral candidate Peter Juras is the name on many voters' lips The Advocate talked to this morning at the Keswick High School poll in Ward 1. We talked to residents after they voted at 10 a.m. One resident, who didn't want to be named, said he voted for Mr. Juras. "I just think the town needs someone new to help it progress. (Mayor Rob) Grossi has done a good job so far, but I think he could have done a bit more. I don't agree with all the decisions Mr. Grossi has made either. I think it's time we got a fresh face in our office and the money can start going toward where it's needed. Another resident, who didn't want his name used said he voted for David Pollock. "I think Georgina needs a change and I think he's the man that can lead us to one. I like his views."

Ray Whitty agreed with fellow voters that changes are needed. "I'd like to see some changes around here. There is graffiti all over the town. Everything around here is getting destroyed and no one seems to care. There's also garbage on the streets everywhere. There's way too many vacant lots around and they're all covered in weeds, growing six feet high. Nobody cuts them and nobody cares. This is supposed to be a tourist town," Mr. Whitty said. Shirley Gunckel voted for Peter Juras. she liked the fact he came to the door and she got to speak with him, adding she read all Mr. Juras' literature and "he seems very qualified". "I voted for an alternate mayor, because I'm not satisfied with Mr. Grossi. I voted for ladies, because I think it's time they got boosted up,' another voter said. Sadie Gatenby voted for Debbie Gordon, "because she seems very concerned with our waterways and over development. I don't want to see our shorelines get too infested". Resident Tim White voted for Mr. Juras. "He wants to keep the small town idea with business opportunities, but he doesn't want to pave Georgina over. I think Mr. Grossi wants the tax base to grow so he wants as much development as possible. I really don't want that." Eileen Stribbell said she did not vote for Mayor Grossi. "I just think Georgina needs a change. I dont think our current council has been doing a very good job," Mrs. Stribbell said. Leonard Stribbell said he voted for Peter Jurus. "Anything but (Mr.) Grossi." It was a family affair. Steven Stribbell also voted against Mr. Grossi. "He promised a medical centre, which never came to light, yet they're going ahead with a toxic hill. I am sick to death of Grossi."
