HOTEL IKILIK /Prompt Select a work of fiction and use that work as the basis of the design of a NYC boutique hotel. /Parti NYC meets the Orient. /Proposal Design inspired by Elif Shafak’s novel “The Architect’s Apprentice”, which transports readers to 16th century Istanbul. The public spaces reference the Orient yet strip it off its traditional ornament to merge Eastern and Western elements in a new form. The hotel guest suite is designed in order to contrast with the public areas by re-introducing some of the ornament, while keeping it casual and sophisticated. The hotel provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC and invites guests to dive into another world. /Square Footage 9,700 sq.ft. /Design Tools Used Hand sketching, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign.

HEALTHCARE DESIGN - ENT CENTER /Prompt Develop program requirements and the design for an outpatient healthcare facility for Ear Nose Throat (ENT) patients. /Parti Light. /Proposal The design was inspired by a poetic interpretation of “light as a healing power” and implemented in terms of creating central “illuminated boxes” as well as other decorative lighting accents throughout the space on the wall and ceiling. Patients that are in need of treatment are looking for a positive and uplifting environment that contributes to their physical recovery. At the same time, bringing natural elements into the space has been proven to be clinically effective since nature has restorative effects on human beings. /Square Footage 10,000 sq.ft. /Design Tools Used Hand sketching, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign.

PRIVATE LOFT /Prompt A young gallery owner acquired a 12’-0” ceiling loft in NYC. She desires an open, airy space, not the conventional rooms that were in place when she purchased the loft. All walls and fixtures have been removed. /Parti The Frame. /Proposal The interior design solution was driven by the concept of “the frame”. Different functional areas are delineated by alternating stationary walls with sliding doors and moving glass wall systems, allowing the owner to maximize space and to move between the public and private areas in a very flexible way. Two large vintage frames are suspended from the ceiling in order to provide an additional, more subtle division between dining and living areas. The overall look is inspired by Nordic color schemes and textures, infused with a rustic charm. /Square Footage 1,100 sq.ft. /Design Tools Used Hand sketching, AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign.

SHOW HOUSE DESIGN /Prompt A group of students from the New York School of Interior Design - Tom Elka, Faith Hoops, Emily Kent, and Larissa Moutrier - has been invited by the Nantucket Historical Association (NHA) to design two rooms in the Jethro Coffin House, the oldest house in Nantucket, as part of Nantucket by Design, a week-long celebration of design from August 2 to 7, 2016. The students will be working with local furniture and antiques stores. /Parti The Vagabond Soul. /Proposal The intention of our design is to communicate a feeling of cultural exploration and the passing of time, inspired by the historic context of the Jethro Coffin House. Just as the first settlers traveled long distances in search of a place they could call home, the locally sourced furniture that was carefully selected for this room not only reflects this idea of the passing of time as well as excellent craftsmanship and tradition but also tells a poetic story about the vagabond soul. /Square Footage 180 sq.ft. /Design Tools Used
