Toppers Compile Respectable 7-2-1 Record T h e 1965 football squad closed out their season with a respectable 7-2-1 record. T h e tough T o p p ers, who d efeated every double A o p p o n en t they faced an d several tough class A schools, suffered two great disappointm ents, a H om ecom ing defeat at the hands o f R aton and a loss in the playoff gam e with St. Michaels. Los Alamos en tered the St. Mikeâ€™s game one loss beh in d in the District race, and the w inner would travel to the State Contest. T h e fired u p team s battled to a 19-19 tie, giving St. Mikeâ€™s the representation to State. O ne o f several high points was the great comeback by th e T o p p ers after a bad night with Santa Fe H igh School to shut out the highly favored Rio G rande Ravens o f A lbuquerque, 21-0. In the last th ree years the T o p p ers have lost once to a double A school and never to an A lbuquerque school. H ead coach T om m y H ightow er was assisted this year by en d coach G erald B arry and the new line coach Glen Howl. Coach H ightow er and staff have com piled over the last th ree seasons an excellent 22 won, 6 loss, and 1 tie reco rd , with one District C ham pionship.
