Since that time the l.ah lias been the nation’s forem ost developm ent center for luiclear weapons. LASI. is now putting em p h a­ sis on m ore peacf ul goals in science and medicine. 4’he town itself lias undergone dianiatic changes. It has progressed from a few log cabins to a m odern town of some 15,()()() people. New housing develop­ m ents and a shopping center have been built. T h e (iovernm ent is gradually w itlidrawing from county affairs. T hese changes are definite and tlie progress obvious; however, some things will always rem ain tlie same. Perhaps the most im portant is the spirit in which the town was established, and which continues today; and the abundant natural beauty encom passed in the su rro u n d in g m ountains.
