On Board Topo 

Recommendations and Requirements • SF14 Keypad is recommended • A CP7 Tubular Compass is required • HI Tape • Note pad • This exercise assumes that there is no project control and we are starting a new job. sokkia

Plumb and Level Instrument over a new control marker. • You should read the first few sections of the manual to familiarize yourself with the basic operations of the instrument. • Install the CP7 Tubular Compass 

Release the needle by twisting the silver nob atop the compass.

Rotate the instrument until the needle splits the hash marks sokkia

When the needle is properly aligned lock the Horizontal Motion • Select F3 0SET. • Now the encoders on the instrument are zero at approximately magnetic north.

We have now oriented the instrument and have made it ready for Topo. sokkia

Selecting and Editing a Job Name • Select the ESC key from the key pad or instrument. • Select F3 MEM  

Select JOB Use your arrows to highlight a JOB and then select EDIT. • Edit the name to reflect the desired designation. • Ensure that the Coord Job is the same as the one selected. sokkia

Select the Enter key when complete. Use the ESC key to get back to the Status Screen.

Select F1 MEAS Rotate the instrument to the BS Point and sight it on the target. • Notice and jot down the HAR value. This number will be used later in Station Orientation.

Tip • Measure the Instrument and Prism heights before beginning the data collection process. Jot these down along with the HAR value.

Data Collection • Select F4 Coord (on page 1)  

Station Orientation STN Coordinate (where the instrument is located) • F3 EDIT  Complete the required fields.  N, E, Z, Inst H and Tgt H.

F2 REC • Edit the point Number if required. • Edit the description if required.

Orientation (SET H ANGLE) Highlight and Select SET H ANGLE • Enter the value you wrote down earlier. • ENTER • ESC

Prepare for BS Measurement by checking the prism for proper installation and that it is plumb over the second new reference point. sokkia

Sight The BS Prism • Highlight and select OBSERVATION • ENTER

After the measurement is complete: • REC 

Edit Code field as required. • Highlight DESC and select EDIT. Select ENTER when complete. • Then OK.

Select F1 OBS for the next measurement and follow the steps for editing the DESC and HTs. Repeat this process until you are done.

DATA TRANSFER • Start Carlson XML on your Desktop • Turn Instrument ON. • Select MEM from the Status Screen 

Connect the DOC 27 Download Cable to the instrument and the PC.

Carlson XML • Select Tools|Data Collectors| Sokkia SDR

Instrument • Select Comms Output

Highlight the job, select Enter. The record on the far right will now indicate OUT. Select OK then the instrument will offer the type of file select SDR and then hit ENTER. sokkia

The only bumps in the road you may experience with data transfer are comm settings and time outs. Comm settings • Check them and make sure these are mirrored between the PC and Instrument.

Time Out • Timing is everything. Try and time the final ENTER on the Instrument as close as possible to the keystrokes required by Carlson. sokkia
