17 – Sailing clubs Shipyards: There are two dry docks (Nacional and Mauá) and two floating docks (Tsakos) offering services in the port area. Maximum ship size: 166 metres x 28.5 metres. Tides: The maximum recorded tidal reading is 4.62 metres. Towage: Towage services include entry, exit, berthing, unberthing and change of berths. They are provided by Kios S.A. and Remolcadores y Lanchas S.A. The latter company has tugs with a power range from 750 to 3,500 hp. Waste removal: Removal of solid and liquid waste is handled by a private company appointed by ANP.
Water: Fresh water is available at all berths. The port has an underground tank of 800 cubic metres capacity and a water tower of 200 cubic metres capacity. Weather: The River Plate winds off Montevideo have an average speed of 12.5 knots. Prevailing winds blow from the northeast. Another frequent wind is the southwesterly pampero, which blows in from Antarctica, bringing rain and a sharp fall in temperature. Records show an average of 16 days of fog per year, mostly from June to August.
Retiro de residuos: El retiro de residuos sólidos y líquidos es realizado por una empresa privada designada por la ANP. Agua: En todos los amarraderos hay disponibilidad de agua potable. El puerto posee un tanque subterráneo de 800 metros cúbicos de capacidad y un tanque aéreo de 200 metros cúbicos. Condiciones meteorológicas: La velocidad promedio de los vientos del Río de la Plata, próximo
a Montevideo, es de 12,5 nudos. Las corrientes predominantes vienen del noreste. Otro viento frecuente es el pampero, que viene del suroeste procedente de la Antártida, causante de lluvias y rápida disminución de la temperatura. Se registra un promedio de 16 días de niebla por año, la mayoría entre junio y agosto de cada año. Jornada laboral: El puerto opera las 24 horas los 365 días del año. La actividad se reduce los feriados del 1 de enero y 1 de mayo.
Working hours: The port operates 24 hours a day, all year round. Levels of activity are lower during the 1 January and 1 May holidays.
