Where it goes After your recycling has been processed at the Lancashire Waste Technology Parks, it is passed on to a number of different companies across the UK, who use it to make any number of everyday products. The map below shows some of the places where your recyclables go.

Our team of Enforcement Officers can issue fines for a wide range of environmental offences that affects us all, including littering, fly-tipping and incorrect use of wheeled bins and recycling boxes.

Green Boxes
We prosecute residents who commit environmental offences either through the courts or by issuing Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs). To avoid an £80 fine please ensure you; • Separate your waste for recycling • Do not litter • Only use the containers we have provided and do not leave extra waste out for collection • Return the containers to your property straight after collection.

Asbestos must not be placed in your bin. Householders can take it to Salt Ayre Household Waste Centre at Ovangle Road in Lancaster. The asbestos should be double bagged in heavy duty polythene and securely sealed. Alternatively call a licensed waste removal contractor.

Waste food must go in the green bin with your garden waste or in the green kerbside caddy. Please don’t take up space in your grey bin with waste food.
Collection
The recycling vehicle is split into two sections. The paper and card is loaded into one side and the glass, cans and plastic bottles into the other. We do not mix the contents of the two boxes together in the vehicle.
You can line your kitchen caddy with paper or compostable liners.

Recycling materials are taken to Middleton Waste Transfer Station where the two compartments are emptied separately. These materials are then loaded up and delivered to the Lancashire Waste Technology Parks, where they are separated in readiness for being made into everyday products such as newspapers, glass and plastic bottles.

Large electrical items like fridges and washing machines can be recycled by calling Bulky Matters on 01524 582491. Alternatively, you can take them to the Salt Ayre Household Waste Recycling centres at Ovangle Road, Lancaster, or Keer Bridge, Carnforth.
