Zaha Hadid Architecture Workshop Architects came in for a day to help us think of the detail before the form, counter to what we are taught in class. The aim was to create a garment that reflects the original shape, but with alterations. Take one existing geometric shape, and alter some of its parameters to form new kinetic components.

Then apply geometric design to create a garment

Modern artistic representation of a garment.

Architectural representation of a garment.

-Idea was to play with the kinetic shape protruding the models form. -Play with the idea of scale depending on where we wanted the emphasis to be on the body.

-Idea was to have all the geometric shapes flowing between each other. -The geometry was more organic to the body form, and reflected geometry in architecture.

Site Model 1:500 The circle in the middle reflects the idea from the casino, that everything is around the central functions. The direct environment influences the design from where the sun is, to noise, passing trade, and where the interior functions should be dependant on external factors.

To understand the space, how the structure, floorplates, volumes and envelope can affect how we interpret the inside. The models can be placed inside each other, to get a closer understanding to how the buildings character works.

9 Old Hatfield Library PROJECT BRIEF A 15th Century Building historically linked to the Hatfield House, famous for housing the Royal Family in the 15th Century. The Old Palace is on a tourist estate with open public gardens. Client wanted a new library function without impacting the envelope.

GOAL -To redesign the main function of the Old Palace into a library. - To reinterpret the relationship between a traditional library and evolving technologies.

ADVANTAGES OF SPACE - Rich heritage and history. - Large open plan spacing.

CATEGORY LIBRARY Location Hatfield, Hertfordshire UK Year September 2015

VISUALISATION - Revit 3D model - Revit renders - Hand drawings

Concept Inspiration

Development

From watching how people interact in current libraries, a common occurrence was the change social interactions across tables, and the change in book to technology usage ratio.

Understanding the concept in terms of more materialistic features, and a representation of space around the concept.

Final Design - Concept Realisation I designed a series of tables which are movable on a pivot. The logic behind the table shape is to allow people to communicate with each other easier and to maintain a sense of spatial ownership. Separated, the table distance allows people to or to have enough space between each other separated to work individually.
