August Lake of the Isles Living
Introducing PAB’S PACKS, a recently started non-profit by local residents Pia Phillips, 15, and Abbie Nelson, 16. The organization provides special backpacks to teenagers whose chronic illness has found themselves in hospitals for extended periods of time. Inside the lovingly-designed bags, recipients find such items as an “extra-cozy” fleece blanket, a charming notebook for journaling or to keep track of questions for doctors, a stress-ball in the shape of a heart, and other thoughtful comforts. Beautifully building upon their own stories and gratitude for each other’s friendship, the two young ladies (and countless others) couldn’t be more excited to see this wonderful program realized, having had their first “hand-out” recently in May. “The most exciting part is the actual distributing of the backpacks; we’re able to give kids something that will help them through their hospital journeys” shares Abbie. “PAB’S PACKS allows them to know someone cares, that they’re not alone, and have a friend during this hard time,” adds Pia. Together, this compassionate duo is giving back to a community of teens their own age through this creative and heartfelt organization.
