“I’M ONE OF THOSE RARE NATIVES.”
A Charlotte native, I am the only child of a hard-working single mother who had high expectations for herself and for me. I grew up in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system and studied fine art at Davidson College. Prior to joining Mike and the team at Griffin Insurance here in Mooresville, I spent 18 years in retail banking. The Mooresville community, particularly downtown, is something I am very passionate about. Not only am I involved with the Mooresville Downtown Commission and the Town of Mooresville Advisory Board for Community Development, but I am also an active member of the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce as well as the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce.
Men and women are different. Ok, so maybe that fact didn’t really surprise you. After all, it’s been 27 years since John Gray popularized the idea that men are from Mars and women are from Venus. And as much as we love sharing women’s stories, we decided it was time to lend the Martians of LKN our ear, too. This month we share the perspectives of Dennis Cowardin of Griffin Insurance.
“LIFE IS GOOD … HARD, BUT GOOD! ” We face obstacles and challenges each and every day, so I find it important to determine which are worthwhile and which are not—then turn your resources towards those things where you can make a positive impact. My mom’s advice and what I try to live by: Be clear with your intentions and impeccable with your word. Do not be afraid to make a decision, even if that decision turns out not to be the best one. I have learned not to succumb to the paralysis that accompanies the fear of making the wrong decision.

“LOVE, RESPECT, AND GRATITUDE ABOUND.”
I have a lot of amazing women in my life. The ladies I work with are top notch and are truly like family. Cortney Frasier is the love of my life. We met in 2008 at an event that I helped organize in Downtown Mooresville called “At the Corner of Art and Main.” Our relationship began in the spring of 2016. She is an exceptional artist, educator, and mother of three terrific sons. My mother is the strongest person I have ever known. I was very intuitive as a child and watched her persevere in the face of adversity at every turn. She is courageous and confident … she is living evidence that people can achieve any rational goal. Period. She has supported me in my every endeavor, encouraged me to pursue happiness, and loved me unconditionally. WRITER LESLIE OGLE

“I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED THE BUSINESS OF PEOPLE.”
I sought a career that would allow me to work with a team and a clientele. I found that I really enjoy collaborating with teammates who have varied skillsets and personalities—and who appreciate working together towards common goals. It’s important to be able to communicate effectively and express your wants/needs to others. I still very much believe in the power of a phone call, especially when there may be some sensitivity around a particular subject … I will reach out and help in any way I can. w
