love stories this month from our Lake Norman Woman readers—and since I always ask others to share theirs, I thought it was only fair to start with mine.
If my life were a romantic comedy, our meet-cute would’ve taken place by… the mailbox.
I’d just moved into a cozy waterfront neighborhood on Lake Norman. It was summer, and I was soaking up lake life—bare feet, sunsets, and all.
As a single mom, I was happy in my singleness, focused on my daughter, work, and building a new life. Dating was the last thing on my mind.
actually hung out. We shook hands— spark. Not kidding. A few days later, while playing cards with my neighbor, someone mentioned the big St. Patrick’s Day party at The Galway Hooker. I said I’d never been. Rob said, “You have to go.” So I did.
We talked more than we drank green beer. He was kind, easy to talk to, and—most importantly— patient. Rob was my friend first, without expectations, just showing up with consistency and warmth.

One afternoon at our shared community mailbox, a guy I’d never seen before said, “Hey… are you new here?” That guy was Rob.
Turns out I’d moved into a neighborhood where everyone
Over the next few months, we played cards, explored the lake, and sat by the water watching boats come in like it was our job. After months of friendship, we had our first date at 131 Main.
Two years later, we got engaged on a dock—and married by the lake, where it all began.
Love finds you—even when you’re not looking.

For Charlisa Herriott (Coach C, the Crushing Chemo Chic®) life’s toughest lessons became her classroom. Cancer diagnoses taught her resilience, hope, and the art of living fully, turning hospital corridors and chemo chairs into spaces of profound learning. Each setback, infusion, and sunrise became a lesson in surrender, perseverance, and gratitude. These experiences inspired Crushing Chemo Chic®—a mission to help women thrive beyond diagnosis through coaching circles, affirmation journals, healing retreats, and spaces to be heard. Charlisa shows survivors that they are whole, worthy, and capable of rewriting their narratives, trading fear for faith and victimhood for victory. Her compassion extends to children, too. Healing Hugs: A Mother-Daughter Story of Love and Resilience teaches young hearts courage and hope even amid illness. Through her work, Charlisa honors everyday teachers: patients, caregivers, and families who model perseverance ... proving that the real curriculum in life is courage, community, and love.
Listen & watch Charlisa's show, The Healed Exchange with Coach C, on Wednesdays at 11am on WSICNews.com & 105.9FM

At Home2Court, we believe life is measured in gatherings—holidays and birthdays, baptisms and anniversaries, and all the little “just because” moments in between. We are here for each of those occasions, offering timeless and tasteful gifts that help you celebrate the people you love most.
One celebration especially close to our hearts is the one that begins with a single, beautiful question: “Will you marry me?” From that “yes” forward, your story together truly begins—and we would be honored to be part of it.
Registering at Home2Court means more than picking out plates and glassware. It’s about thoughtfully choosing the pieces that will shape your days and your years: the table where you’ll host your first dinner as a married couple, the platter that will hold your child’s first birthday cake, the serving bowl everyone reaches for at Thanksgiving. We’re here to help you make your home, your table, and your keepsakes a true reflection of who you are together.
For many, the phrase “wedding china” can feel old-fashioned, especially in a season where simplicity is so appealing. But what if you could have both—simplicity and significance? This is your moment to invite those who love you to gift you with pieces that are not only beautiful, but meaningful and enduring.

go deeper. We’ll sit with you, talk with you, and uncover what feels special to you. Are you dreaming of a stunning tablescape for your first married-couple dinner party? A charming, elevated setting for your child’s first family birthday? A holiday table that feels warm, inviting, and uniquely yours? We’ll help you build a registry that reflects your taste, your story, and the atmosphere you want to create in your home.

When you register with Home2Court, we’ll help you find the staple items you’ll use every day, but we’ll also
We understand that today’s couples value a clean, simple aesthetic, but that doesn’t mean your registry has to be ordinary. If you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for in the store, we’ll work with you to source and style the pieces that bring your vision to life. Our goal isn’t to outfit your pantry with everyday basics— it’s to help you select the heirloom and lifelong staple pieces that will anchor your home and your traditions, much like a strong marriage anchors a life.
This is your time to be celebrated, and your family and friends are eager to honor you in a way that feels personal and lasting. We hope you’ll stop by Home2Court, sit down with us, and let us turn your wish list into a beautifully curated reality. Together, we’ll help make your special day—and all the days that follow—even more memorable.

When it comes to wedding planning, the venue is the cornerstone of the entire celebration. It determines your date, sets the tone, and influences nearly every decision that follows—from décor and catering to guest count and budget. Because venues book quickly and availability is often limited, locking in your location early gives you both peace of mind and a clear vision for the rest of your planning journey. Here are a few key tips to keep in mind when choosing your wedding venue:
AVAILABILITY & FLEXIBILITY:
Before falling in love with a space, confirm that your preferred date (or season) is available. Venues with flexible layouts or multiple spaces can adapt to your vision and guest count.
ON-SITE COORDINATION:
Venues with an in-house wedding coordinator or event manager can be invaluable. Their experience with the space helps ensure smooth timelines, seamless transitions, and fewer day-of surprises.
BUILT-IN CATERING & BAR SERVICES:
Choosing a venue that offers food and beverage services can simplify planning, reduce vendor coordination, and create a more cohesive guest experience.
INDOOR & OUTDOOR OPTIONS:
Even if you’re dreaming of an outdoor ceremony, having indoor spaces available provides peace of mind for weather changes and adds versatility to your event flow.
LIGHTING & ATMOSPHERE:
String lights, candles, uplighting, or lanterns can instantly change the mood and make a space feel warm and intimate.
SIGNATURE DETAILS:
Personalized cocktails, custom signage, or meaningful table names add charm and reflect your story as a couple.
INTENTIONAL SPACES:
Create lounge areas, memory tables, or welcome displays that encourage guests to linger, connect, and feel included in the celebration.
SOUND & FLOW:
Thoughtful music choices and a well-planned layout help guide guests naturally from one moment to the next.
At the end of the day, the perfect venue isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about support, flexibility, and the ability to make the space feel like your own. By choosing wisely and adding personal touches, couples can create a wedding day that feels effortless, meaningful, and truly unforgettable.

GETTING-READY & ENTERTAINING PIECES
Items used during bridal brunches, rehearsal gatherings, and gettingready moments contribute to the atmosphere of the day. Serveware, trays, and entertaining pieces that are both beautiful and functional can later become part of everyday life at home.
Accessories for groomsmen and bridesmaids often pull the look together. Thoughtful items like quality socks, subtle jewelry, or coordinated accessories can elevate attire while remaining wearable well beyond the wedding day.

BACHELORETTE & PRE-WEDDING TRAVEL ESSENTIALS
WHERE THE DETAILS OF YOUR WEDDING COME TOGETHER
A wedding is more than a day—it’s a season. From engagement celebrations to bachelorette essentials and thank-you gifts, planning ahead keeps every moment intentional—with destinations like Whitlyn’s offering support for the details in between.

PLANNING AHEAD FOR SPECIAL ORDERS & TIMING
Certain pieces (especially gifts or coordinated items) benefit from early planning. Allowing time for special orders ensures nothing feels rushed as the wedding approaches.
MEANINGFUL THANK-YOU GIFTS
Whether heading to the beach, mountains, or a favorite city, having elevated yet practical travel items helps make these trips memorable without feeling overly themed or disposable.
Parents, bridal party members, and close supporters often appreciate gifts that feel lasting rather than trendy. Timeless jewelry and keepsakes offer a meaningful way to express gratitude and commemorate shared moments.

An Elegant Lakeside Timeline for Your Perfect Wedding Day

Guests arrive to sweeping lake views, gently bobbing boats, and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere that immediately sets the tone. Soft music, coastal details, and the natural beauty of the marina create an effortless sense of occasion.

Rather than a traditional send-off, couples depart by boat—cheered on from the dock as they sail into the night. It’s a cinematic ending and a fitting beginning to the next chapter.
As night falls, the energy builds. Dancing beneath the open sky, joyful toasts, and music carried across the water create a celebration that feels warm, intimate, and unforced.
The transition into dinner is seamless as string lights begin to glow and conversation fills the space. The evening unfolds at a relaxed pace, balancing elegance with ease as guests settle into celebration.

As the sun lowers, soft light creates the perfect conditions for portraits. Moments captured along the dock and shoreline feel natural and organic—images that are unmistakably lakeside and effortlessly romantic.

With the lake as the backdrop and sails drifting by, the ceremony feels intimate and timeless. Dockside or lawn settings offer unobstructed views and understated romance, allowing the scenery to speak for itself.
Cocktail hour feels curated rather than overwhelming, with a select offering of signature drinks and elevated bites. Guests mingle easily in the open air, enjoying the breeze and golden-hour light—an ideal window for candid moments and portraits.

“Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food, and medicine to the mind.”
– GERARD DE NERVAL
THIS COULD NOT RING MORE TRUE for Josmiry Perez, owner and lead floral designer of Petal Perfections in Mooresville. For her it is a birthright, a language, and a lifelong calling rooted in family. She blends artistry with legacy, creating meaningful designs inspired by the generations before her and the daughters who now watch her build something of her own.

Raised inside her parents’ Brooklyn, New York, flower shop, she grew up surrounded by blooms, love, and hard work —a foundation she now carries forward as both a mother and a business owner, shaping a brand that is as heartfelt as it is beautiful.
Born in New Jersey and raised in Brooklyn, Josmiry quite literally grew up surrounded by flowers. Her parents opened Miriam’s Flower Shop in 1990, when she was just 5 years old, and it quickly became the center of family life. “That shop became the heartbeat of our family,” she smiles. “I quite literally grew up between buckets of roses and ribbon spools.” Years later, life came full circle when both of her daughters, Jordanna and Janelle, were born while Josmiry was working in that very same flower shop.

floral design as her calling. She served as a New York City Fire Department EMT and later pursued nursing. “Those years taught me discipline, empathy, and the value of being present during people’s most vulnerable moments,” she shares.
Yet no matter where life took her, flowers remained her emotional home. Through Petal Perfections, Josmiry has created far more than a floral studio. Floral design allows her to translate emotion into beauty. “To celebrate love,” she shares, “mark milestones, and honor life in all its forms is an honor and privilege.”

Though flowers were her first love, Josmiry explored other paths before fully embracing
Her ultimate vision is expansive: building a brand rooted in loyalty, artistry, and trust that may someday grow into a franchise known for emotional storytelling through design. At the heart of this motivation are her daughters. “They inspire me every day,” Josmiry says. “I want them to grow up knowing that dreams are built through courage, creativity, and consistency.”
That philosophy carries into how she balances motherhood, marriage, and business ownership. Each morning begins in stillness. “I believe you can’t pour into others if you haven’t poured into yourself first. When I am grounded, everything else thrives.”
Guided by her favorite quote — “Imagination is more important than knowledge” — Josmiry believes growth begins with vision. And on her perfect day, she’s exactly where she belongs ... designing with fresh flowers, working alongside family, and knowing that something she created will live forever in someone else’s cherished memory.

Our first date was at a local coffee shop, Willow Wood, we talked for 5 hours, forgot everyone else existed until they kicked us out because they were closing. For our first anniversary we decided to go back to the coffee shop as part of our date. We sit down, at the same booth from our first date, and Beth hands me my card, then tries to sneakily pull out a ring box while I'm reading her message which ends with a proposal. I'm crying and laughing at the same time, and instead of saying yes I just pull a ring box out of my bag and set it on the table in front of her.
SANDRA WEST & BETH DAVIS
My husband and I met in medical school. I had sworn off dating, but we became instant friends. We joke that we flirted over dead bodies in gross anatomy lab but it's true. I was pretty good at dissections, and he was not great, so he asked me for help. One day, I was stressed and snapped at him, so he walked off like a kicked puppy. I realized then how sweet he was, and made an effort to be nicer and help him. I became the surgeon, and he became the outpatient pediatrician :)

Our September 2021 wedding was planned in 4 hours. We said yes to our venue before getting engaged and we got married twice that year - once for my mom who passed of lung and brain cancer 19 days post our impromptu June wedding. How our wedding came together to include her was simply magical.
KRISTIN PRICE

After setting the stage in the Eiffle Tower, my husband asked to marry me and go on more adventures with him. So we decided to have a destination wedding in Iceland. The grandparents were unable to attend so we dressed up in and visited each of them. My grandma said she was my flower girl and paraded us in front of her friends. I cherish these memories.
CLARISSA OLEKSOWICZ

23 years ago, fate led me onto a sold-out train from NYC to Syracuse. Exhausted from a long night, recovering from the flu, and having just ended my previous relationship in the cab, I sat beside Ryan. 6 hours flew by, igniting our timeless love. I am forever grateful for destiny's whim, and I crave the next 23 chapters. True love awaits unexpectedly! LYNN BOWSER

My first husband died from a car accident, after being in a coma for 6 weeks. I never thought I'd find love again. I met my current husband online.
For a time he refused to tell me his birthday. It was the date my husband died. It was a sign.
LISA SAAB

Two weeks after our first date, we knew we were getting married. I asked how he found me amongst the chaos of the world & he said “God brought me to you” unaware I’d been praying for a faithful, God-loving man to find me. One unexpected night meeting friends ended in a rain-soaked, movie-magic kiss & we’ve been together ever since—21 years and counting! AMYMICHELE JONES

Fifteen years ago, two sisters with a shared calling, a deep faith in one another, and an unshakable belief in the power of caring for people as whole human beings opened their doors to what would become one of Lake Norman’s most trusted dental practices. Today, as Lembo Montgomery Cosmetic & Family Dentistry celebrates its 15th anniversary, Dr. Kara Lembo and Dr. Lindsay Montgomery are pausing—not to look back with pride alone, but to look around with immense gratitude.
“This practice has never just been about dentistry,” Dr. Lembo says, “or two sisters’ journey. It’s about relationships, our team, our families, our patients, and our community that has supported us from day one.”

Raised in Cedarville, Michigan, the sisters grew up in a household where family came first and service was a way of life. Their father, John J. Scherer, DDS, practiced dentistry for more than 40 years, and his influence shaped both their professional paths and their personal values. “Our parents taught us about character, leadership, and showing up for people,” Dr. Montgomery shares. “Watching our dad care for his patients (and truly know them on a personal level) left a lasting impression.”
Both sisters worked alongside their father early on, gaining firsthand experience of how dentistry could positively impact people not only physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. For Dr. Montgomery, that foundation led her to serve eight years in the United States Navy, including deployment overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom, providing dental care to service members. She was later awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for her dedication. “That time taught me perspective,” she says. “It showed me how powerful compassion can be, especially during uncertain or stressful moments in someone’s life.”
Diagnosed at age 46 with invasive ductal carcinoma in situ, Dr. Lembo faced a journey that reshaped her understanding of life as well. “Cancer gave me a new perspective,” she says. “I’m not the same person I was before ... and that’s okay. I’m stronger now. Wiser. And deeply grateful.” She has since become an advocate for women’s health, emphasizing the importance of annual exams alongside mammograms. “If sharing my story helps even one woman, it’s worth it.”

The sisters, however, are quick to shift the attention away from them and instead look to those who have helped turn their shared dream into a reality ... a beautiful and rare reality. When the sisters joined forces and opened their practice all those years ago, they brought not

only clinical excellence to Lake Norman, but also a philosophy rooted in teamwork and trust. One of the things they are most proud of is the remarkable group of women who have stood beside them for much of their journey.
“Our team is the heartbeat of this practice,” Dr. Montgomery says. “Some of these women have been with us for over a decade. They’ve grown with us, supported us, and helped shape the culture we’re known for today.”

Fifteen years in, the sisters view their journey as something built collectively — shaped by patients, strengthened by colleagues, supported by family, and anchored by community.
Dr. Lembo agrees. “We believe in a ‘Happy Team, Happy Patients’ mindset, and that only works when people feel valued and appreciated. We are incredibly blessed by the dedication, loyalty, and positivity our team brings every single day.”
Throughout it all, the sisters leaned on each other, their team, and their community. They also leaned on the lessons their father instilled in them— lessons that became even more meaningful after his passing in 2020 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. “Our dad always told us to believe in ourselves and in each
other,” Dr. Montgomery says softly. “He was our rock. We carry him with us in everything we do.”
Today, that legacy is reflected not only in their thriving practice, but in their commitment to giving back. From supporting local initiatives to mentoring young women, Drs. Lembo and Montgomery believe success carries responsibility. “We want to be role models,” they reiterate. “Especially for young women who may not yet realize what’s possible.”

WHEN TALKING ABOUT relationships, there is a concept called New Relationship Energy (NRE). At the beginning of a relationship, emotional and sexual connection (and therefore satisfaction) are high. This NRE can last several months up to several years, and it is largely driven by a flooding of bonding neurotransmitters in the brain. One may feel like they can’t stop thinking about their partner, the chemistry is high, and sexual compatibility is intense. By nature’s design, NRE will start to settle down.
Many couples will then move into a more longterm relationship dynamic called Companionate Love hallmarked by intimacy, trust, commitment, and mutual respect. Connection is deep but it may feel different than it did before. I often hear folks describe things such as “the chemistry is just not there anymore” or “we don’t connect sexually like we used to.” This is a normal evolution of a long-term relationship. To keep your NRE alive, consider the following:

It may be no surprise that communication is first, but it is often what people struggle with the most when it comes to intimate topics. We often lack the language to truly express our desires, feel shameful about our fantasies, got really bad advice the last time we brought it up, or just feel too uncomfortable to discuss it. I suggest picking a date to have an annual intimacy check-in conversation such as New Years, a birthday, or an anniversary. Talk about it OUTSIDE the bedroom.
When I talk about safety, I mean both physical and emotional safety. Are you comfortable with the physical acts that your partner is suggesting? It’s important to also feel emotional safety with your partner. Emotional safety comes by feeling secure and accepted. This is fostered through trust, respect of boundaries, consistent behavior (such as helping with daily home tasks), open communication, and support. If you don’t feel these things outside the bedroom, your body and brain will recoil and intimacy will become off-the-table.
Humans can sometimes fall into a rut, turning intimacy into something performative or goaloriented. When closeness is driven by outcomes— whether pleasure, power, or performance— it can lose its deeper meaning. If those expectations aren’t met, disappointment often follows. True intimacy isn’t about reaching a specific endpoint. It’s about presence, vulnerability, and the connection of mind, body, and soul with your partner.
Sex is adult playtime. It should be fun, interesting, and imaginative. Many people think that fantasies and imaging are scary, or it means something about you. However, fantasies help tap into your imagination, increase desire, and improve satisfaction.

FOR MANY, THE JOURNEY to better health is paved with good intentions—exercising more, eating cleaner, managing stress, sleeping better. Yet the pressures of modern life often derail even the most determined efforts. What’s been missing in traditional healthcare is a model that looks beyond symptoms and addresses the root causes of disease so patients can truly thrive.
That’s exactly the gap One Health’s Lifestyle Medicine program was created to fill. Built on evidencebased habits that prevent, treat, and even reverse chronic conditions, the program is helping men and women reclaim their metabolic health—not though fad diets or quick fixes, but through sustainable, sciencesupported behavioral change. Lifestyle Medicine (LM) addresses the six pillars of wellbeing: nutrition,
physical activity, restorative sleep, stress resilience, positive social connection, and avoidance of risky substances. These p i llars have consistently been shown to not only improve metabolic markers, but also boost energy, mood, and long-term quality of life.
Dr. Lisa Gorsuch knows firsthand the struggles that women face. A board certified OBGYN with over 30 years of clinical experience, she has seen how obesity and overweight can affect menstrual cycles, fertility, pregnancy outcomes, mental health, and can lead to increased cardiovascular and cancer risks. She is also board certified in Obesity Medicine and has an additional certification in Lifestyle Medicine and Menopausal Management. “With Lifestyle Medicine,” she explains, “we are able to help address the underlying
causes of obesity and improve not only body composition but also address chronic disease management.”
After re-educating herself, Dr. Gorsuch returned to clinical practice at One Health in her new capacity as a Lifestyle Medicine physician. She quickly connected with Dr. Kira Harris, Director of Pharmacy Services at One Health, who provides clinical support for patients with cardiometabolic issues like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Dr. Harris, a clinical pharmacist with over 15 years of experience, has helped numerous men and women optimize their medications to take control of their medical conditions, manage their weight, reduce the risk of heart disease, but most importantly, improve their quality of life.
“Focusing on the whole person,” she says, “and implementing lifestyle medicine along with medication management, we are able to help patients achieve better cardiometabolic health with fewer medications.” With this concept in mind, Dr. Gorsuch and Dr. Harris developed Cardiometabolic Shared Medical Appointments which are now offered quarterly at One Health. These twelveweek SMA programs bring together a small group of patients with similar goals for longer, more comprehensive visits that blend medical care, education, and community support.
Studies show that shared appointments improve adherence, boost motivation, and help patients achieve results more quickly. The sense of connection increases confidence and confidence increases consistency. Drs. Gorsuch and Harris are proud to be part of the One Health team and excited to expand our offerings in 2026 to help even more patients reach their full potential.

AS A PRIMARY CARE
PROVIDER, I have the privilege of caring for patients across many stages of life, and one topic that consistently rises to the top is cardiovascular health. Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, yet much of it is preventable through everyday choices and proactive medical care. This message is especially important in February, which is recognized nationally as American Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, education, and prevention of heart disease.

Cardiovascular health is not just about avoiding heart attacks or strokes; it is about maintaining healthy blood vessels, optimal blood pressure, balanced cholesterol levels, and steady blood sugar over time. In my practice, I emphasize prevention because small, consistent steps can lead to meaningful long-term benefits. Regular physical activity, even as simple as a daily walk, improves circulation and strengthens the heart muscle. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats helps reduce inflammation and supports healthy cholesterol levels.
Equally important is managing risk factors early. High blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity,

smoking, chronic stress, and poor sleep all place strain on the cardiovascular system. Many patients are surprised to learn that stress and sleep deprivation can be just as harmful as poor diet. Routine checkups allow us to identify these risks early and create individualized plans that may include lifestyle changes, medications, or referrals when needed.
Cardiovascular health is a lifelong commitment, not a short-term goal. American Heart Month serves as a reminder to prioritize heart health year-round through prevention, early detection, and consistent primary care ... because taking care of yourself is the most important love story of all.

THIRTY YEARS AGO, two local medical groups made a decision that would shape healthcare in Iredell County for generations. Piedmont HealthCare began as a simple idea when leaders from Statesville Medical Group and Iredell Medical Associates recognized the potential of working together and proposed a merger. That idea became reality in June 1996, when the two groups officially united to form Piedmont HealthCare.
At the time, Dr. Ralph Bentley, chairman of the organization’s first board of directors, explained the purpose behind the merger: “The merger stems from a mutual desire to help patients maintain control over their choice of physician.” That patient first philosophy continues to guide Piedmont HealthCare three decades later.
What began with 55 physicians across several specialties has since grown into a network of more than 200 providers representing over 20 specialties, serving patients throughout Iredell and surrounding counties. This growth has brought care closer to home—reducing travel, improving access to specialists, and strengthening collaboration among providers to deliver coordinated, patientfocused care.
Dr. Walter Meadors, a founding member of Piedmont HealthCare and its current medical director, has witnessed nearly every chapter of that growth firsthand. After practicing as an OBGYN in Statesville since 1987 and with PHC for nearly 30 years, Dr. Meadors reflects on what has remained constant. “From the very beginning,” he shares, “this was about physicians working together to protect the doctor-patient relationship. We believed then, and still believe now, that care is best when decisions are made locally by doctors who truly know their patients.”
That same philosophy continues to guide leadership today. CEO Jeffrey Smith emphasizes that growth has never been about expansion for its own sake, but about stewardship: “Our responsibility is to honor what was built 30 years ago while making thoughtful decisions to ensure Piedmont HealthCare remains strong, independent, and patient focused.”
At its heart, Piedmont HealthCare’s strength lies in the people who have helped build it. Lorraine Lambert, office manager at PHC Pediatrics, began her career with Statesville Medical Group 39 years ago.

“I started in pediatrics as a receptionist with Dr. Bentley, Dr. Willhide, and Dr. Lewis, without any medical experience,” Lorraine recalls. “Those doctors, and nurses Darlene and Sandy, taught me so much.”
When asked what has kept her at PHC for nearly four decades, her answer reflects the lasting relationships formed through pediatric care. “My favorite part of my job is the babies—watching them grow and reach milestones,” she smiles. “Then those babies come back as parents with babies of their own, and I get to see them again (and get hugs, of course!). That’s why I’ve stayed so long. Pediatrics has been my second home for nearly 40 years, and the doctors and staff are absolutely amazing.”
As Piedmont HealthCare celebrates 30 years of service, it remains rooted in stories like Lorraine’s—stories of dedication, compassion, and enduring relationships with patients and families. Looking ahead, PHC remains committed to its physician-owned legacy and to building a healthier future for the communities it serves.

FEBRUARY IS THE MONTH OF HEARTS EVERYWHERE.
They’re on cards, in your comments, in candy boxes, and at the center of every love story. It’s also American Heart Month, which makes it the perfect time to pause and reflect on what truly keeps a marriage (and a body!) strong.
When couples plan a wedding, they obsess over the details that make hearts flutter: the dress, the vows, the first dance. But beneath the romance lies something even more essential: the literal heart that will carry them through decades of shared moments, milestones, and memories.
Just like a lasting relationship, heart health is built on daily choices. It’s not about grand gestures alone. It’s about consistency. Choosing nourishing foods, managing stress, moving your body, and making time for rest all mirror the foundations of a healthy partnership. Communication, balance, patience, and care are the cornerstones of success in all matters of the heart.

Think of your heart as the rhythm of your love story. It speeds up during joyful moments, steadies itself during challenges, and quietly works behind the scenes, day and night, without asking for applause. Yet it deserves attention. Preventive care, routine checkups, and knowing your family history are acts of self-love that ripple outward, strengthening not just you, but the life you’re building together.
well enough to enjoy it. Strive for presence over perfection. Being there for anniversaries, inside jokes, ordinary Tuesdays, and everything in between strengthens both the vital organ that carries us forward and the relationships that make the journey worthwhile.
VALENTINE’S DAY REMINDS US TO CELEBRATE ROMANCE, BUT HEART HEALTH REMINDS US TO PROTECT THE FUTURE
Valentine’s Day reminds us to celebrate romance, but heart health reminds us to protect the future. A long marriage isn’t just about staying in love, it’s about staying

February invites us to celebrate love in all its forms. It also asks us to honor what makes love possible. Beyond flowers and vows, love lives in intention—in how we move, rest, nourish, forgive, and show up for one another. The strongest love stories are sustained not only by devotion, but by a healthy heart quietly beating ... faithfully carrying us forward.
