The ball gently rotates backward as it floats toward the rim. Maye keeps his shooting arm extended as if to add an exclamation point to what is about to happen. He feels it. Luke Maye knows before anyone. There is never a doubt. With just .3 seconds left, the ball swishes through the hoop. Carolina beats Kentucky. Tar Heel Nation goes nuts, and Maye adds his name to a very short list of those whose last-second heroics have determined the outcome of one of the season’s most important games. It is March Madness at its best. (Duke fans are enraged.)
