The last couple of years have most of the country longing for simpler times when drag racing was seen on the Strip, drive-in and 3D movies were all the rage, friends hung out at the local drugstore soda fountain, everyone owned a hula hoop, Elvis Presley had girls fainting, and rock ‘n’ roll blared from car speakers. Whether those days bring back fond memories or you just wish you had been old enough at the time to remember them, you can experience the 1950s for one special night this spring.
Almost since its inception, Newcomers/Longtimers has supported the Lake area through a variety of fundraising activities, the largest being the annual Home Tour. The Home Tour has not been held since the pandemic began and until it can resume, the organization is hosting a Sock Hop in its place to raise money. It will be held April 1 at the Osage Beach Elks Lodge from 5-9 p.m. Proceeds from the Sock Hop will be added to the Newcomers/Longtimers scholarship fund. Each year Newcomers/ Longtimers awards scholarships to students wishing to complete their education or return to school. Now more than ever, students are struggling to find the financial resources to complete their education. By providing scholarships, Newcomers/Longtimers help make that possible, so polish up those saddle shoes, pull out that letterman sweater, and step back into the 1950s for a night of flashback memories and support of the Newcomers/Longtimers scholarship fund.
