REGISTRATION REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

LATE REGISTRATION

There are three easy ways you can sign up for Y classes:

Swim lesson prices increase by $25 beginning on the first day of late registration.

• In person: Visit the Welcome Center to pick up a registration form and fill it out for immediate processing. • By phone: Call us at 847.367.6797 after 7:30 a.m. with your credit card information and we can take care of registration while you are on the line with us. • By e-mail: Available only to current members who draft monthly using a credit/debit card―please do not e-mail credit card information. Fill out the online registration form available on our website, www.ymcalakecounty.org, and e-mail it to registration@ymcalakecounty.org.

REGISTRATION FEES Wondering why there are two fees listed under many of our programs? The first fee is the member rate and the second is for visitors.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION Registration is open first to Central Lake YMCA members, followed by open registration for community members and members of other YMCAs. Registration forms are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes must achieve minimum enrollment standards to continue and will be closed when they reach maximum capacity.

CANCELLATION & CREDIT/REFUND POLICY The Y is unable to do make-ups or issue refunds or credits for classes due to illness, scheduling conflicts or other personal reasons. If you decide not to participate in a class during the first half of the session, a $50 fee will be charged and the remainder of the class fee will be refunded in the form of a credit voucher good toward another YMCA program. NO refunds or credits will be issued once 50 percent of the program session has been completed.

GOOD VALUES! When you register for a program at the Central Lake YMCA, not only do you get a good value, but you get good values. That’s because all YMCA programs are developed to express, demonstrate and encourage the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

HELP US RUN GREAT PROGRAMS Great classes have been canceled because of late registration. If enrollment is not at our established minimum number one week before the first day of class, we will need to cancel the class. So PLEASE register early for your class.

NEW MULTI-SESSION FITNESS REGISTRATION In order to serve you better we have new fitness registration policies to make your life easier. Members of Lake County Family YMCA can now register for Spring 1 & 2 sessions at the same time. Spring 2 fitness class registration will begin during Spring 1 member registration and will be open through the both Spring sessions.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SWIM LESSONS WHAT MAKES OUR PROGRAMS DIFFERENT? The goal of the YMCA swim lesson program is to develop the whole person — spiritually, mentally and physically. Our teaching methods focus primarily on student-centered learning, increasing awareness of safety in all aspects and assisting participants in perfecting skills to the best of their ability. The goal is to create a life-long interest in aquatic activities and promote a healthy lifestyle. All instructors are lifeguard certified. Here are five components of the YMCA Swim Lesson Program: • Personal Safety: includes rules and safety tips, floating, treading, use of personal floatation devices (PFDs), boating safety, and health and safety. • Personal Growth: includes character development and personal growth opportunities. • Stroke Development: includes water orientation and adjustment skills (parent/child) and major swimming strokes. • Water Sports and Games: includes water polo/wetball and competitive swimming. • Recognizing Emergencies: getting help, non-swimming rescues and first aid.

SWIM LESSONS During each session your child will learn both structured swim instruction and water-safety skills. If your child is ever the only participant to show up for his or her group lesson, the class will run for 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes. The participant must be able to perform the skills required in the enrolled level. Instructors reserve the right to switch any participant they feel is not in the appropriate swim level. We ask that parents view swim lessons from the pool-viewing room. This allows your child to benefit the most by giving his or her full attention to the swim instructor. We also ask that parents do not leave the premises when your child is in their swim lesson. During swim lessons the pool is closed to swimmers other than the one lap lane we leave open for our members who wish to swim laps. Communication is key to a successful program so we ask that if you have any questions about the participant’s lessons, please contact your instructor or the aquatics department. For further information on where your child should be placed, please contact the aquatics director at 847.367.6797.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY GIVING BACK The Lake County Family YMCA is a cause-driven nonprofit organization that strengthens the community through programs and services that foster youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We were chartered in 1912 and are one of the largest community service organizations in Lake County. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only happen when we work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, the Lake County Family YMCA works side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. We want all residents of Lake County to have access to our programs and facilities regardless of their ability to pay. To accomplish that we need the support of our members and our community. Together, we can provide life-changing experiences and unprecedented opportunities for children, teens and their families.

WAYS TO GIVE MONTHLY GIVING Add a charitable contribution to your monthly membership dues―a convenient option for members paying by monthly draft. ONLINE Go to www.ymcalakecounty.org to make a one-time contribution using your credit card. IN PERSON Stop by our Welcome Center desk while you’re at the Y to make a contribution using cash, check or a credit card. BY PHONE Call us at 847.367.6797. A member of our staff would be happy to process your contribution over the phone.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Y STORIES GAINING NEW CONFIDENCE You could say that Donna Flouret was “sick and tired of being sick and tired” and knew she had to do something about her weight so she started working out at the Y. “I started making lifestyle changes about three years ago with my eating habits. I also started doing the elliptical and bike. I was losing a good amount of weight but I needed to ramp it up a bit,” she said. And ramp it up Donna did when she started boot camp. “It’s challenging. We run obstacle courses, pick up and throw tires,

do relay exercises, squats, partner pulls and tire pulls, for example.” Donna is part of a group of women who have bonded and based on their increased athleticism, have done competitive events together. “We have a great camaraderie from working out together. I feel accountable with the group. The classes have taken me the step further in my weight loss, now 122 pounds, and fitness ability,” she adds. “It’s amazing how working out has become a part of my lifestyle. “Now I need to get to the Y!” she added. “My husband says I carry myself differently. I have far more confidence. My cholesterol level was borderline. My blood pressure, heart rate and cholesterol levels have all come down.” We say kudos to Donna who recently completed her first half marathon. And some of her friends from the Y were there to support her.

WHAT’S YOUR Y STORY? Do you have a great story about how the Y helped turn your life around? Or did you grow up in the Y and now take your kids there – continuing the family tradition? Or maybe you’ve been a Y volunteer, serving the community? We want to hear and learn from you. Please post your story on our Facebook page and we may contact you to get more information. Your story and photo could be featured in one of our future program guides and/or on our website.   Watch for some of our interesting Y stories soon!
