THURSDAY DECEMBER 29 2011 OUR INAUGURAL & FUNDRAISER CONCERT "dessert with wendy"

"Dessert with Wendy" Villa Venezie was the stunning setting for our first fundraiser concert. Located high up in the mountains at Rancho del Oro owner Ms. Kim Everest (also owner of Restaurant Number Four) opened the doors of her villa at no charge for this concert. The two levels could seat in total about 40 people and we were very lucky to sell most of the tickets. Guests arrived at 2pm and they were photographed at the entrance. On the terrace a mint/cucumber welcome cocktail, prepared by the bar of Number Four, was offered to the guests. The doors to the living area opened at 2:45pm and after an short introduction first by Jillian Sandrock (sister of Wendy Waldman and President of the Lake Chapala hospice board) and a speech by Erik Slebos, Wendy Waldman made her entrance. Amongst the guests was Mr. Tod Jonson, who wrote an article about this performance that tells it all. For the complete article see following page. "Behind the stage" chef Greg Coulliard, with the help of six of the Lake Chapala Hospice volunteers, created a spectacular dessert plate that was ready to be served after Wendy performed her last beautiful song.

Luis McCornick (Quattro photography) was so generous to be the photographer, so we can include a good number of the many pictures taken that afternoon. Since this was a fundraiser for the start足up of Lake Chapala Hospice A.C. it is important to report that this fundraiser was also in this perspective a great success! With the event expenses staying below the set ceiling of 15% the net proceeds of this afternoon will be sufficient to cover the legal filing and registration fees and the notary and accountant expenses! A big thank you to all who made this happen! Paulus Uleman

by Tod Jonson I remember all too well reveling in the vocals, with some of her own famous songs, that Wendy Walman ooozed out over the radio and recordings a couple decades ago. I thought she was an untouchable who would remain elusive all my life, since I was no longer in Hollywood, CA. Boy, was I WRONG! During the final week of December, 2011 a very special concert was given to salute the new HOSPICE being developed at Lakeside by Erik Slebos and Paulus. Often unreliable Lakeside gossip reported that composer/singing artist WENDY WALDMAN would be giving a concert at Ajijic’s NUMBER 4 SUPPER CLUB’s owner Srta. Kim Everest’s mountainside villa on a certain day and time. SURE SHE WILL?! Well ‘SURE SHE WILL’ actually , honestly happened! I take back all I ever said about local gossip, and will now scan the papers for things that I laughingly ignored in the past….’cause it could be true.’ At the appointed time, WENDY WALDMAN, live and in the flesh, stepped into the room with her “smoother than silk guitar” and did a rousing 75 minutes of her songs that warmed the heart. Not only is she filled with stunning repartee to connect her songs, but her voice is as smooth as Fort Knox gold bullion. I was aghast that our wee village in central Mexico could “import” such a renowned high caliber artist with extraordinary warmth, talent, and vocal smoothness. She was breathtakingly finetuned. If you closed your eyes, she was radio smooth without a hitch. Her years of popularity flowed over the highly appreciative audience while obviously enjoying every second her liquid vocal notes filled the air.

I was unaware that her father, the gloriously famous Fred Steiner, lived here at Lakeside. Wendy, while visiting her father during his final days, prompted her into do something extra special honoring the extraordinary health and aging care that humanitarian founders Erik Slebos and Paulus Uleman masterminded the badly needed HOSPICE idea for those of us who might need extra care one day as we enter some form of final stages of life. Wendy’s father wrote the theme music for television’s Perry Mason, many episodes of Twilight Zone, Star Trek, Rocky and Bulwinkle, Gunsmoke as well as a much longer list of other hit shows. Mr. Steiner was mighty busy for years keeping television alive with his music, while his daughter was creating Folk Art country and acoustic music which are now standard classics in the music world. Wendy continues to explore new musical worlds, scoring films, producing records in various formats. As a member of the popular Refugees along with band mates “Cindy Bullens” and “Deborah Holland,” she leaves her almost grown children behind in a steady environment while she tours the US, Canada and Europe to sellout houses. This is what brilliance can do for you.It is easy to say WENDY WALDMAN is the Cadillac of the song writing and vocal artist’s world, and is certainly the Rolls Royce with the warm, obviously talented, and an overwhelmingly popularity as an entertainer. Miracles can happen when you least expect….AND…. even through the grape vine. Listen up, we don’t ever want to miss something as important as WENDY WALDMAN in Ajijic, Mexico ever again.
