Facilities Update “At least the Tube and Ski Hills are having a great season”. That’s what I keep telling myself every time it snows this winter. It certainly has been a great season for every one that loves the outdoors; not so much for those that have to clean up the snow on the roads and sidewalks though. My unofficial snow gauge has us at 54.5” of snow Shaun Nordlie through February 17th. In January Facilities Director we plowed new snow or drifts a total of 23 days. Add four more days where we just had the John Deere tractor out winging the snow back off the roads as far as we could before the next snow. It certainly has been an educational year also, we lost one of our dump trucks in late December which meant we had to adjust our plowing maps and think outside the box for new ways to plow and drop salt and chips when necessary. The shortage of salt that every state that maintains their roads has dealt with affected us at the end of December also; our supplier told us that we were cut off from any open orders and all future orders of salt immediately. This again, made us have to rethink the way we plowed and dropped salt and chips to make sure the roads were in the best possible shape given the weather conditions. I want to thank my staff for their hard work this winter, working odd hours when necessary, giving up weekend plans – almost every weekend this season – and dedication to making sure that our roads are in the best shape possible. The crew is Rusty Block, Mike Derdzinski, Bob Ditzler, Chet Haas, Raoul “Jeep” Hill, Rick
Jensen, Rose Kuhlemier, Tom Miller, and Tim Throop. They have been great and made my life. and hopefully yours, easier this miserable winter. One note about the crew; they honestly do not have an issue with mailboxes, it might just seem that way. With the amount of snow we have been pushing this winter some mailboxes have been hit. We know about most of them and plan on starting to repair them as soon as we get the chance and when the weather cooperates. If we have not fixed your mailbox, please let me know and I will get a crew over to see what can be done as soon as possible. As for the good things from this winter; I hope you have taken the chance to enjoy the ski hill or tube tow during these perfect conditions. The guys have been able to keep a solid base all year on both runs making for one of the most successful seasons in a very long time. We plan on keeping the ski and tube hill open as long as weather permits this year, so if you have not come out yet, I think you will have the opportunity to do so into March this year. The snow has also made the trails very popular for snowmobiles so far this year. I have not been out on them yet, so I am hoping that they are in good shape and providing a fun time for those utilizing the trails. Once the snow does melt, I am hoping to use the same company that maintained the trails last spring for the ATVer’s. They did an excellent job of getting the trails ready for the summer and eliminating many areas that were trouble areas in the past. Hopefully, this work can be done in April – weather permitting – and we will be ready for the summer season.
Are you registered with Lake Carroll’s Reverse911 Alert System? By Deb Stagno Included in the annual mailing with your 2014 dues invoice was a salmon colored postcard to register with Lake Carroll’s Reverse911 System. This system allows LCA to notify registered members of emergency alerts within a matter of minutes. This card allows you to identify a primary phone number, which will enable us to reach more individuals quicker when a time-sensitive event occurs. What a great response we have received from this mailing with 415 new registrants and about 535 members who have designated a “primary” number on their current account. If you are a new member to this service and only have only given us a “primary number”, you are still able to add 4 additional numbers to your account if you wish to do so. There is a different form to do this, available on our website or in the office. Please be sure to mark this form, “update” so we join these numbers with your current “primary number” account. This makes a total of 1,335 total participants in LCA’s emergency notification system. We would like to thank everyone who has registered and encourage those who haven’t yet returned their card to do so. The postcard is available at the Admin Office, or you can cut out the card image on page 9A and return it to Lake Carroll Association, Attn: Reverse911, 3-200 Association Dr, Lake Carroll, IL 61046
