About the Project: The projects essence is rethinking work space and work place in Amman, through out the understanding of the current typology and architectural solution to the office building, which is in most cases the air-conditioned glass-box, and coming up with a more suitable solution to office building in Amman, That respects: Urban Realm and Context, Technology and Sustainability, Better Spatial Relationships for better work experience. The Project is about Challenging the present and producing a new architecture that speaks and respects its context and user. The programme was specifically chosen - The support sector in Cairo Amman Bank - as a good example of hierarchical, non-flexible workplace, and produce a new workspace that supports the proposed theory. Concept

Challenging the prevailing dominant office-building TYPE in Amman.

A. Challenge the rational & image of the office-building air-conditioned GLASS BOX:

C. Challenge the apathy and lack of PUBLIC SPACE in corporate Ammani culture (providing spaces for general public)

The project was able to challenge and produce a new building type of office buildings that respects sustainability, throughout implementing some passive design techniques to reduce the use of energy needed to cool the building, such as:

The project was able to challenge and produce a new solution when building on slope by resulting a gradient and stepped levels within the site, creating different usable spaces for the public/ private or both.

The project was able to challenge and produce a new typology of office building within an urban context, by creating spaces for the public, where the ground level and curtain levels within the architecture are penetrable by the general public. This reflects on:

1- Over hangs and double skin facade 2- Green tops 3- Active ventilation channels penetrating through out the building

In this configuration the back side of the building is as important as the front Of it.

1- Social responsibility for the corporate in the city. 2- Branding and public image of the corporate. 3- A friendly and interactive architecture with the layers of the context.

Resulting in significantly lower use of energy in the building (working with the environment, not against it).

Support spaces 50% : 50% of the entire work place Support Spaces Serve as a temporary active spaces were all the communication and interaction happens, it also can serve as a temporary working spaces for the population as touch downs and drop-ins around the floor plan. No hierarchy is applied in the workplace, all the population have equal areas and share the same spaces.

4. Future adaptive system throughout future expansion strategy. Based on: - Servant and Served. MANY ORGANIZATIONS CLUSTER WORKSPACES BY DEPART- Modular spatial arrangement system. MENT, BUT MOST WORK REQUIRES INTERDEPARTMENTAL COMMUNICATION.

Each worker occupy 10m2 of the whole module for best convenience. Resulting in 80m2 module that can take many Geometrical forms.

2. Creating flexible working spaces that are adaptive to the needs of work (challenging prevailing departmental type).

As a result, a team module is chosen, with 8 person occupied, and can be extended to 10 when needed (8 was chosen as the optimum number of people interacting in a space, in accordance to acrostics and work-flow.

The site is located in the city center of Amman, Jordan, Located on one of the most important arteries in Amman, Arrar Street, linking West of the city with downtown. Public transport highly active on Arrar street, with its location on the foothill, the site is a connection between Jabal Amman and Jabal Lweibdeh (One of the oldest hills in Amman). With a strip full of offices and workplaces around the site, there is no public space for workers to hangout or enjoy a good food services around in break times, or after working hours, as result, making the site a fertile urban force in the context, with high opportunities.
