hi, I’m Laia!

about me
Specialized in product design. I like to approach new projects from different perspectives: Analyzing the environment that surrounds me, working together with the materials and creating new languages. Motivated to conceptualize through research and experimentation, as well as being able to self-produce. I am interested in continuing to train and learn artisanal techniques, reinterpreting them in this contemporary paradigm. I do not consider myself a monotonous person, I am not afraid of change, it motivates me to face new challenges and learn from others in a positive environment within a team work. I understand design as a tool with great possibilities, able to connect two realities such as industrial design and crafts.

rastro project Elisava March, 2018 Experimental Design
This project was born through an experimentation with candy, understanding it as a material. It became a poetic exercise in which the only rule was to play with the volumes. Then I selected a series of everyday objects linked to the moment of eating, to give them a new expression. When I finished the exercise I realized that the objects would end up disappearing, adopting an ephemeral character, this produces a certain nostalgia. What would happen if everything we had, vanished in a matter of minutes? The objects we have for a long period of time suffer a loss of value, considered everyday objects, part of the routine, becoming physical objects that, emotionally, fade away. We observe these objects as simple contours, empty of content. 6

urban environment & clay Espai Acta December, 2016 Clay Workshop
During this workshop, with Julen Ussia as a tutor, we made an approach to clay from an urban perspective. How does this material work with random elements that we can find in a urban environment? What does this relation bring to the material? Through these questions we have faced the project as an experimentation with the material as well as urban waste. At the end, the project was defined thanks to these inputs, generating unique pieces that were born merging clay, neighbourhood and design. 12

hĂĽl stool Elisava January-March, 2017 Furniture Design
Furniture project made during my third academic year. HĂĽl stool arises from my interest in small thinking philosophy, which seeks to encourage small businesses and creatives who try to survive in a globalized market. This movement is committed to dynamic attitudes, consumers who seek to change obsolescent products for those of greater permanence. They seek their own self-sufficiency and local solutions, with a greater awareness of what they consume. HĂĽl merge pleasant forms with standardized materials. Its design wants to be available to everyone under the idea of creating an open-source project, it is a multifunctional and customizable object. 18

terracota type Elisava February, 2017 Clay Workshop
This workshop, based in La Bisbal de L’Empordà , capital of the catalan ceramic tradition, lasted one week, in which we immersed ourselves in the artisanal and industrial work of clay. During that week I delved into the craft techniques of working with clay and in parallel developed a team project that combined graphic and product design. Terracota Type seeks to introduce a more contemporary language within the world of tiles. The whole alphabet is created through six modular pieces. Simple forms integrated within the square. Terracota Type is a typeface created for La Bisbal, inspired in traditional tiling forms. 24
