ATHLETES -IN- TRANSITION
ADRIAN MCBRIDE Former College & NFL wide receiver for the Missouri Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals Adrian McBride is the ‘Athlete in Transition’. Adrian McBride has been consulting in the recruitment, transition and career placement business since 1988, starting that year with a St. Louis-based manufacturing and physician search and placement firm. In 1992, Adrian branched out and started his own placement company, the McBride Company, a recruitment, transition and placement company. His niche was supporting and helping manufacturing management team leaders transition from one company to another. In 2001, Adrian began working with college and professional footballs players who were making the transition from the football field to the business world. Adrian also accepted a part time position with Riddell Sports as their Youth Football Representative. Within one year, Adrian had more than tripled the sales and customer base for Riddell. Within three years Adrian was working with well over 80% of the youth football groups in eastern Missouri. During this period was when Adrian realized how much he had missed the football world himself.
Today, Adrian offers career coaching, recruitment, placement and other transition services to current and former college & professional athletes and a select list of corporate clients. Drawing on his experience in staffing & recruitment and sales & marketing industry, Adrian observed that many former athletes were having difficulty making the transition from being a well-known college or professional athlete to a full time non-athletic career.
Research on the subject shows that most athletes spend their time and energy preparing for the next practice, the next game, and the next level. But, very few prepare for what lays ahead once their sports careers end. This becomes a time of harsh reality for most athletes.
