High intensity functional training versus normal isolated training High intensity functional training is a full body training method using functional exercises and usually performed in intervals or circuit formats. After an intense full body session your body’s metabolism is increased by up to an average of 9% for up to 3 days after the session (due to repair of muscle tissue, etc). Therefore if a session is performed every other day, using this method, your metabolism will be in increased throughout the week. With the increase in metabolism more calories/energy is consumed which is favourable to burn fat, increase lean body mass and a better quality of life. Normal isolated training is a form of training where there is a focus on a couple of muscle groups per session (mainly adopted by body-

builders). With the decreased number of muscle groups active through movements, less energy is used throughout the session which isn’t as an effective method of training if your primary goal is to burn fat, lose weight and gain lean muscle.
