Fitness Centre In order to comply with physical distancing protocols set out by the BCRPA, Island Health and Work Safe BC, we are inviting you back to the Fitness Centre by APPOINTMENT ONLY. Controlling the amount of people in the Fitness Centre allows us to enforce physical distancing and ensure equipment and touch points are disinfected. Each appointment is for 1 hour at a cost of $4.25. Setting up an appointment is easy - just follow the steps! If you prefer to set up an appointment over the phone, please call us at 250.245.6424 during office hours and we would be happy to help. NOTE: The Fitness Centre will be closed August 1 - 3.

Frequently Asked Questions: I have a pass on hold. Can I reactivate it to use for these appointments? Not at this time. All passes have been suspended until we are fully operational. Can I book more than one appointment at a time? There are only a limited number of sessions per day please be respectful and limit your bookings to one a day. What if I become ill after I book my appointment, will I receive a refund? Yes you will receive a full refund in this instance and we thank you for being socially responsible.

Is there a time limit on equipment? Our 30 minute maximum on cardio equipment remains in effect. We also ask that you do not spend more than 5 minutes on a strength machine and supersetting between equipment is not permitted. Are the Personal Trainers available for one-on-one service? Sorry, not at this time, we are evaluating options for the reintegration of this service for a future phase. In the meantime, there will be a personal trainer on site at all times to answer any questions - at a socially responsible distance of course!

Sign in. If you have registered for a class or membership with us before, you should already have an email in our system. Click Forgot your Password? Enter your email address and a temporary password will be sent to you. If you do not have an email in our system, click Create an Account.

Children and Youth Programs PLAY, CREATE and EXPLORE with ADVENTURE ZONE DAYCAMP this summer! There are still some spots available for August at the FJCC location! World Cup Soccer Camp

This professionally developed program includes skills, drills, mini games, and fun competition for young soccer players wanting to learn new tricks and play the game of soccer. Red Cross Stay Safe! (9-13yrs)

Real-world scenarios often call on children to respond to challenges. The Stay Safe! program teaches applicable and age-appropriate skills, while increasing and reinforcing a youth’s capacity to improve his or her own safety. Whether in their community or on their own, this group will be given better tools to Stay Safe! in a variety of different situations. Youth Sport Conditioning (10-15yrs)

For youth who are focused on performance and excelling at sport, conditioning is ideal. In fact, conditioning has proven beneficial for young athletes to help develop strength, balance, coordination, speed, power, flexibility and agility. Continuing with athletic conditioning has also helped athletes become more resilient to injury or bounce back sooner. Conditioning programs should be instructed by a knowledgeable and qualified trainer that will take into account their rapidly changing bodies and consider how to develop their specific skills for their sport. Youth Zone Fitness Blender (13-18yrs)

Youth Zone Fitness Blender is a series of fitness and wellness classes specifically for teens. Classes may include bootcamp, yoga, strength training, and fundamental movement skills. Please note: Arrive early for class in order to allow time for pre-screening. No late arrivals will be permitted to attend.

Frequently Asked Questions: What new protocols are in place to ensure my safety? All of our programs will involve a greeting, pre-screening and hand sanitation each and every time we meet. Each participant will be supplied with their own disinfecting agent and paper towels to clean equipment after use. Frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned on a regular basis by staff.

Can I drop-in to these outdoor in-person classes? No drop-in spots are available. Please register for the entire 4 session set to secure your spot.

What equipment do I need for class? These classes will be designed with limited equipment. Our instructors can get very creative! Please bring your own waterbottle, no water fountains will be available.

Can I still shower up when I’m finished my class/workout? No, sorry. Our showers are closed but the bathrooms are available with 1 person occupancy.

Will I have my own “space” to participate in? You will be assigned a “space” to participate in during your class, as well as your own assigned equipment.

Being more active is good for your health! Join a community of older adults for a total-body L workout appropriate for active agers. Osteofit Level 1 & 2

Osteofit is a specifically designed program to G help you reach your fitness goals while respecting your limitations and expanding your possibilities. Exercise maintains bone health and improves muscle strength, balance, and joint range of motion to reduce the risk of falls and fractures. Osteofit 1 contains an educational component that includes nutrition, falls prevention, active living with osteoporosis, and healthy lifestyle choices. Skip the cardio and join us for an hour of power in M this total body Strength and Stability conditioning class. A variety of equipment, including your own bodyweight will be utilized to sculpt, tone and develop muscles. This class will have an emphasis on safe and proper form. OUTDOOR CLASSES

Cardio Circuit

A ‘do-it-all’ high intensity circuit style class that MH will get your heart pumping and muscles strong! Challenge your body’s ability using a variety of equipment and compound muscle movements. This is a high intensity class, if you have mobility issues or injuries you should see your doctor or speak with the instructor prior to participation. Forrest Field

HIIT the Outdoors

High-Intensity Interval Training, aka HIIT is one M of the best ways to maximize your workout time and burn lots of calories during and even after your workout. HIIT alternates between intense bursts of effort and less-intense or rest. Fitness Class Intensity Levels

The intensity levels are used as a guideline. Each individual may choose to work at their own pace. Warm up is an important component of your workout - PLEASE SHOW UP ON TIME FOR CLASS.

R

Restorative - restorative fitness, no impact. May require medical clearance. Perhaps the use of a mobility aid, health issues to consider.

G

Gentle - beginner level, very low impact, low cardio intensity, rehabilitative fitness, some classes may require medical clearance. Perhaps the use of a mobility aid, health issues to consider.

L

Low - beginner level, new to fitness, low impact, mild cardio intensity, gentle strength training for joints. Great for those returning to fitness post injury or surgery. Great for prenatal moms and active agers.

M

Moderate - intermediate fitness level, possibility of jumping and turning with more dynamic movement. Good body mechanics. Good cardio base. Some compound muscle movements may be introduced. Some modifications may be given to those who need them.

H

High - Advanced fitness levels. Working out of your comfort zone to approximately 90% of maximum heart rate. Full range of motion around joints is ideal. Injury free. Lots of compound muscle movements. Coordination and agility are also used in this type of class.

How do I register for a program?

Things are changing day to day, minute by minute. If you decide to register for a program and details of the program change, a member of the Ladysmith Parks, Recreation and Culture team will be in touch. If you need to withdraw from a class, refunds may be given for withdrawals 5 days prior to the start of a program, subject to a $5 refund processing fee. No withdrawals or refunds 4 days or less before course start date.

What if something changes?

We are doing our very best to plan in advance for a return to our ‘regular’ class schedule. However, the health and safety of you, our community and our staff is an absolute priority. We will continue to follow the Provincial Health Officer’s and WorkSafeBC directives on COVID-19 protocols. Watch for the Fall Activity Guide coming soon with more programs and registration opportunities.
