PASTOR’S CORNER As a parish we pray for and congratulate our newest Confirmation class. These 45 young men and women are being “Confirmed” this weekend as a reminder that after the Apostles were “Baptized in the Spirit” they immediately began to form the Church of Jesus Christ based on the promised and given “Holy Spirit”. The promise of Pentecost is that Jesus would send us the Paraclete, the Helper, the Coach. This Paraclete would teach us all that we need to know about everything that pertains to God, Eternal Life and how to participate in the “Abundant Life” in the here and now. The early Christian Communities were truly “spirit filled” in that they believed in the power of the Holy Spirit and actively prayed to be open to both the spiritual and charismatic gifts of the Spirit. The use of the gifts enabled the early Church to quickly spread the message of Jesus to all the known areas of the world. This was often accomplished at great cost as hundreds of thousands of Christians were and continue to be martyred for their beliefs. Christianity was never designed to be a “safe” religion. It was instituted by the Lord Jesus to bring revolution to the world. The weapons of this Revolution are love, repentance, scripture, sacraments and joy. Jesus himself said that he came to bring division, to challenge everyone about what they believe and why. It is no different for us today. We pray that our young confirmandi may truly be revolutionaries. We bring the Spirit into a world so in need of spiritual rebirth. Please pray for them and all who will witness to them and through them. On a more “earthy” note -- Today is Investment Sunday, a reminder that we are all responsible not only for the things of heaven but for the things of earth. As stewards, we are responsible for the ongoing development of all aspects of the parish and I thank all those who are taking this challenging burden seriously. We have also begun to take up a second collection at all the masses. Our goal this year is to collect enough money to re-carpet the Church. We began this endeavor last year, we need $36,000 total to do the job correctly. Please be generous as we seek to keep our Church a beautiful and welcoming Worship Space.

Pastor Corner Continued Another opportunity to act responsible and reverently is through our House of Charity drive. As I mentioned, 100% of our House of Charity stays in the parish and supports the chaplaincy program and its ministry to the sick, homebound and prisoners. It supports Fr. Steve in his work in various diocesan marriage programs, myself in my work with the Medical Ethic Committees, supports the ongoing education of our Deacons and through the Liturgy program trains new Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and Cantors for our parish and the surrounding area. A portion of the monies we raise over and above our assessment also stays in the parish and supports many of our parish outreach programs. To date we have collected just over $50,000. My prayers and thanks to all who have embraced my message and have pledged this year. Thank you for your prayers and generosity that keep our parish well staffed and blessed!!! Did you know? Without coloring, Coca-Cola would be green. Stay tuned for more trivia. From the Office of Faith Formation
