The exposition “Memory and Memorials” will demonstrate how people remember with the help of architectural structures and art objects. The exhibits will include churches built to commemorate historical events, triumphal arches, columns and obelisks erected in honour of military victories or in commemoration of significant accomplishments, and portrait or allegorical sculptures carrying on the tradition of immortalising historical personalities and events associated with them. Eighteenthand nineteenth-century memorial sculptures by the best sculptors of Europe and Russia from the museum collection perpetuate the memory of Russian historical figures and members of eminent families. The memory of the dead is encapsulated in tombs and gravestones, and the best of them from the museum collection will be put on show.
