“If being a hippy means loving freedom, music, caring for nature, respecting others and living in peace, then yes, we’re certainly hippies!”. This was how a veteran of Las Dalias put it when a young journalist in Madrid asked him about whether those early hippies of the nineteen sixties and seventies still survived in today’s Ibiza. Our magazine presents a showcase of the people who make up the great family of Las Dalias and its spirit. To many, they are the new hippies, the artists of the twenty-first century, crafts-
men, travellers and happy people who, as maestro Antonio Colinas says in the prologue, “who put up their stalls here, more for love and for illusion, for loyalty to a life-style, than for love of money”. They are the heart of Las Dalias. Idealists, homing in on Ibiza from all corners of the globe, make up the human landscape of the street market which is celebrating its 26th anniversary replete with images and experiences. Las Dalias is growing and updating but still retains that essential love for beauty, commitment to harmony and ambience of colours and sensations which inundates all of the two hundred stalls of this inland islet of Ibiza. Each
stall is its own little universe, run by good people who look to the future with optimism, who adore smiling faces and unexpected gifts, who know where all the real treasures of life are to be found. A photographic tour of “Las Dalias on the Road” in Madrid, inspiration for pampering your body, mind and palate, interviews with the pioneers of Las Dalias, our story told through posters and concerts down the years, and photos of many pleasant days and long nights of music: these make up this second edition of Las Dalias Ibiza Magazine, dedicated to optimists and “real hippies” wherever they may be. •
