6th graders are honored in a very nice advancement ceremony. The students and their families congregated in the elementary cafeteria for this big event. Mrs. Kay Norton and Dr. Burnie Roper both gave rousing speeches encouraging the students to continue to work hard and strive to do their best as they move on to their next challenge as middle schoolers. Nutrition & Wellness

Page 3 of 11 June 3, 2011

The Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness class was on a mission to find new delicious and nutritious recipes for the cafeteria to cook. Students researched recipes that they thought students would enjoy and choose Tortilla Soup and Chicken Lo Mein. After preparing a sample dish, Mr. Rodriguez, the Food Service Director agreed to participate in the project. Students were divided into two groups, each responsible for marketing one of the meals in hopes that their team would have the most sales. They wrote announcements, made posters, researched the nutrition facts, designed flyers, and even created a website that included the recipe. The day the meal was prepared; students greeted customers and helped serve the meal. Both teams were successful because we SOLD OUT of both dishes. Mrs. Duron would also like to thank the awesome cafeteria staff for all their help!

Field Day

Page 4 of 11 June 3, 2011

This year’s field day was an enormous success for all grade levels. Kids slid and splashed until their hearts content. When you have slides named Wally the Whale and The Big Kahuna it’s sure to be an eventful time. It certainly was the “best day ever” as many of our students were heard to say. All the hard work was very much worth it.

Page 7 of 11 June 3, 2011

On Thursday students at Lackland Elementary school spent the afternoon flying kites and blowing bubbles. The fun afternoon was capped off by our annual egg drop where students must follow guidelines and the create a container that will protect the egg after having been dropped from 3 stories high. We had two surviving eggs which met all of the tough criteria. A fun time was had by all!
